5K and 1-Mile 👟
2026 Course Information
Course maps for both the timed 5K Run/Walk and untimed 1-Mile Walk are displayed below. Both scenic routes wind through the beautiful Maryland Zoo exhibits.
Course Improvements for 2026
We listened! Based on feedback from last year's participant survey, we've made several enhancements for our third year at the Maryland Zoo:
-
Clearer and increase signage along separated routes for 5K and 1-Mile participants
-
Staggered start for the 5K with improved start line positioning
-
5-minute gap between race starts for enhanced safety
Stroller Policy
Strollers are welcome but for everyone's safety, participants with strollers should position themselves at the back of the start line for both events.
Important Note for 5K Participants
5K runners must complete both laps before crossing the finish line. Finishing after only one lap produces an incomplete-course time that can affect results and awards for fellow competitors who complete the entire 5K.
Anyone who plans to complete only one lap should speak with check-in staff about switching to the 1-Mile event and receiving the appropriate bib before starting.
