Description

Hello everyone!

On behalf of myself and Mission Adelante as well as our co-director, Alex, amazing team of volunteers and supporting sponsors, we want to welcome you and THANK YOU for participating in our 5K!

So far, the weather is looking good - no chance for rain and temps in the upper 60's for the start, but we all know things can change quickly.  Regardless, the race will be held rain or shine. If inclement weather or lightning rolls in, we will make a decision as soon as possible, but for all intents and purposes, we are a go and look forward to meeting all of you!

Packet Pickup will be held on race day, September 3rd, between 7:30-8:30AM near the start line.  We will also have coffee and danishes in case you don't have a chance to grab a bite before the race.

Race day parking is available at the Bethany Medical Office Building Parking lot.  The address is: 45 N. 12th St, Kansas City, KS 66102. Street parking is also available but somewhat limited.  After parking, head to the start of the race located on the south side of Bethany Park on Central Avenue, just west of 11th Street.  There will be porta potties available onsite at the park.

We will have a lead course monitor, Valter Herman, who will be riding his motorcycle during the race and guiding everyone along the course.   You will travel in one lane on Central Avenue, loop around the high school, and return in the same lane on Central.  We will have barricades controlling traffic as well as ample volunteers along the route.

If at any point, you need medical help, you can ask one of the police officers along the route or Valter. A registered nurse will be available at the start and finish line.

Our aid station is located on the east side of the high school shortly before the 2 mile point.  It will be stocked with Gatorade and water along with lots of fun music and people to encourage you to finish strong!  A porta potty will also be located at the aid station, near the football field of Wyandotte County High School.

If you see someone pointing a camera at you - smile pretty!  We’ll post these pictures on our RunSignup link after the race. We are in need of one more course photographer.  If you know of anyone who can help us, please let us know!  Our awards this year include the top three females and males, top female and male youth (11-17), and top female and male kids (age 0-10).  All participants will be entered to win one of three gifts:  a $100 gift card to Earl May’s, a $65 gift card to the Stretch Zone, and two bags of Kurt’s Granola.  Enjoy our post-race food and stay for the day’s events, including the Central Avenue Betterment Association's Parade, lots of great food, and family-fun activities led by interns from Mission Adelante.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

Have a great day and we’ll see you Saturday at 9AM!

Packet Pick up and Race Day Instructions

Packet pickup starts on race day, September 3rd, from 7:30-8:30AM.  The table will be set up near the start line.

Parking is available in the lot of Bethany Community Center or North of Central on 12th street.

Sometimes there are weather circumstances that are beyond our control, however, a little rain won't stop us.  We will still hold the race rain or shine, but we are dedicated to ensure the safety of all participants and volunteers.  If there is lightning in the area, we may delay the race a few minutes until it passes, then proceed.  In the event of severe weather, if it has not passed within one hour after the start of the race, the race will be cancelled and we will post an update on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

Participant shirts

Our participant shirts are made of super soft triblend cotton and will have each finisher's name on the back!  They will be either navy or gray depending on the size and availability from our supplier, Anything on Anything.  August 13th is the last day to sign up to guarantee yourself a shirt!

Third year participants receive a pair of socks!
