2020 Kansas Half Marathon Cancelled
Runners,
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of the 2020 Kansas Half Marathon due to COVID-19. Runners who have already registered will be given the option of a full refund or a deferral to 2021; runners may also choose to donate their entry fee to Heartland Community Health Center, the safety-net clinic that continues to provide affordable health care for all at a time when people need it the most. An email to registered participants will be sent out shortly.
This is not a decision we make lightly. The Kansas Half Marathon is the primary fundraising event for the Heartland Community Health Center, and this cancellation will be felt for some time to come. However, we want to do right by our runners and volunteers and community to keep people safe. While none of us know what the situation will look like in November, it is very likely that we would not be able to put on the race we want to and the race our runners deserve. Waiting until October to make a decision would make it impossible to offer full refunds if we had to cancel the physical event, so we're taking that difficult step now.
With that said, we are looking forward to coming back strong in 2021! Keep following us on social media as we'll be doing giveaways and challenges open to all throughout the summer and fall. We're also going to take this time to completely revamp the race for 2021, including a new date and a new course. We want to hear from you, our runners, on what you want to see-look for a survey soon, and feel free to post your ideas here or email us at kansashalf@gmail.com. The Kansas Half Marathon & 5k event is for everyone! In its 13th year, Heartland Community Health Center invites you to lace up your running (or walking shoes) and join us on Sunday, November 1st, 2020 in Lawrence, Kansas. Since its inception, the Kansas Half Marathon has partnered with safety-net organizations, like Heartland, to help offset costs and increase access to affordable health care services for those that seek care in Douglas County. This yearwe invite you to run with a purpose and support accessible health care for all.
Heartland Community Health Center, the beneficiary of the race, is a non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center that provides high-quality and affordable health care for all in Lawrence-Douglas County regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
With your support, Heartland will provide care for more than 7,300 individuals in an integrated primary care model that addresses the needs of the whole person. Together, we can impact the health and lives of those in need in our community.
We strive to increase both local and regional participation and hope you’ll be a part of the event this fall!
