We are excited to work with Cornerstones of Care as our 2020 charity partner! Cornerstones of Care has a long legacy of partnering with children, young adults, and families to create safe and healthy communities. Through our decades of trauma-informed expertise, we effect positive change in our communities, raise awareness and give a stronger voice to those in need, and deliver a fully integrated approach to care.
The individuals we work with develop skills and knowledge that will empower them to live safe, productive and non-violent lives. We do this by meeting the most basic behavioral healthcare needs of our community, including:
Treating trauma and improving individual health
Reuniting families and placing children in foster care in loving homes
Caring for children and young adults with acute mental health needs
Nurturing the self-worth and dignity of all individuals in our care
Above all, we strive to create a safe healing environment that respects dignity and inclusion so our children and families can experience more fulfilling and rewarding lives. Get or give support at www.cornerstonesofcare.org.
Awards will be presented to the fastest male and female finishers, the fastest masters male and female finishers, and the top three male and female finishers in the following age groups: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80 and over.
Registrants can pick up their packet on Friday, July 31 from noon to 6pm at the KC Running Company store at 200 E. 135th Street in KCMO. This will be a DRIVE THROUGH PACKET PICKUP only and you will be able to pull up to the drive through window on the south side of the building and pick up your race swag without having to get out of your car. You can pick up the packets of friends and family members also, just be sure to let them know. Packets will not be available before noon and the lines are usually the longest at the beginning of packet pickup. You can also pick up your packet on race morning beginning at 6:45am at the race site, but we would discourage you from doing so as we are trying to minimize congestion at the event.
COVID - 19 PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES
We are taking a number of steps to enhance the health safety of the event for the participants, volunteers and staff, including:
We will expand pre race packet pickup to two days to reduce congestion and will make it a drive through packet pickup to minimize contact.
We will spread the porta potties out at the start/finish area and add sanitizing stations for people to use.
We will assign people bib numbers based on their projected starting time and then start them in waves of 15 or so every 30 seconds. We will spread participants out at the start by will putting small cones in the starting chute for the participants in each wave to stand at to keep them socially distanced from one another. We will ask people to stay away from the starting area until we call them up by bib number.
We will set bottles of water out at the water station instead of cups of water and we will not hand them their water, having them pick up their bottle instead if they so choose.
We will use bib chips rather than shoe chips so that we won't need volunteers to remove them after they complete the race. We won’t have any volunteers in the finish chute, but will instead provide grab and go bags for them to get their finishers medal, bottle of water and snack to reduce participant contact with volunteers.
We will text their times to the finishers who have signed up to receive them and will have a QR code on their bib numbers that will allow them to get their time with their smart phone.
We will mail age group and overall awards to them after the race to reduce the need for participants to hang around after the race.
