CASA 90 Miles In Their Shoes Challenge

CASA of the Heartland serves children in the Hardin County/Fort Knox region.  These children are most often abused and neglected and are dealing with the difficult challenges of navigating the complex child welfare system.   A CASA volunteer is often the only “one constant” in the child’s life, their advocate, their voice. Unfortunately, while CASA of the Heartland serves 106 children today, there are approximately 90 children who are waiting for a CASA volunteer in Hardin county alone. Kentucky continues to rank #1 nationally in child abuse petitions.  In recent years, Hardin county had the highest percentage rate increase of abuse petitions than any other county. Therefore the need for volunteers is significant. With your help, CASA of the Heartland can give a seat to the children who need us.  

The inaugural 90 Miles In Their Shoes Challenge is a one-of-a-kind event that challenges participants to run or walk 1 mile for every child currently on the waiting list.  The "90 Miles in Their Shoes Challenge" will begin November 1, 2020 and you will have until January 1, 2021 to register. Once registered, you will have 90 days to walk/run 90 miles to complete the "90 Miles in Their Shoes Challenge". Registration for the Virtual Challenge is $90. When signing up you will receive a Digital Bib and upon completion of the challenge receive an Event Long Sleeve Shirt, Finisher’s Medal, Collector’s Bib, CASA Drawstring Bag, CASA Water Bottle, CASA Lip Balm, CASA Bracelet, and CASA Face Mask. Each person may go at their own pace, on their own terrain, and in whatever time of day suits them best. Be sure to share your journey and photos with us using #90milesintheirshoes. The goal is that with every mile completed, you walk or run in honor of those children who need a CASA. Put yourself in their shoes to make a positive impact and change a child’s story.
