Disheartening News: Cancellation of Fight the Flames 5K
Dear Participants,
It is with heavy hearts that we must inform you of the cancellation of the much-anticipated Fight the Flames 5K event. Despite our best efforts and the incredible support from our community, we have not garnered enough participants to proceed with the race as planned.
We understand that this news may come as a disappointment, especially considering the admirable cause we were all rallying behind. The Fight the Flames 5K was not just a race; it was a symbol of our collective commitment to supporting the fire extinguisher program and ensuring the safety of our community by making sure everyone who needs a fire extinguisher in their home, could get one at no charge.
Over the past several months, we have witnessed the dedication and enthusiasm of each and every one of you who signed up for this event. Your willingness to lace up your running shoes and join us in this endeavor was truly inspiring. Unfortunately, despite our shared passion and efforts, we fell short of the necessary numbers to make the event viable.
We want to express our sincerest gratitude to each of you for your unwavering support and enthusiasm for the cause. Your willingness to participate meant the world to us, and it is deeply disheartening to have to make this decision.
We have an annual "Stop, Drop, & Run 5K" that is held every year. I also want to offer a $5.00 discount for registration on that race. We'd love to see you at this great event. Use the code FIGHTFLAMES5K when registering at STOP, DROP, RUN 5K (<<< click here).
We remain hopeful that in the future, we will have the opportunity to revive the Fight the Flames 5K and come together once again to make a meaningful difference in our community. Until then, let us hold onto the spirit of unity and support that brought us together in the first place.
Thank you for your understanding, your support, and your unwavering commitment to making a positive impact. We truly appreciate each and every one of you.
With heartfelt regards,
Lt. Joshua Cromer

News Article about our Fire Extinguisher Program
The Georgetown News-Graphic November 15th, 2023
The Scott County Professional Firefighters Local 4215, in partnership with the Georgetown Walmart, announced a No Cost Fire Extinguisher program. The program will be exclusively for residents of Scott County. This initiative aims to equip local households with essential firefighting tools to better prepare them in the event of a fire.
The program has 200 fire extinguishers available to be placed in homes in Scott County. Residents will learn how to use their extinguisher effectively and firefighters can assist with evaluating any additional specific fire safety needs. The goal of the program is ensuring that participants have the tools and confidence to tackle small fires before they escalate.
"Our close partnership with the Georgetown Walmart is what made getting this pilot program off the ground possible. The safety of our community is our top priority, and empowering residents with the knowledge and tools to protect their homes and loved ones is an integral part of our mission," said Joshua Cromer, Treasurer of Scott County Professional Firefighters Local 4215. "We encourage all residents to apply for one of these fire extinguishers, to learn the importance of fire extinguishers, and be prepared to use them in case of a fire."
All Scott County residents are invited to apply for a free home fire extinguisher. Firefighters will install the extinguishers in the homes of residents.
