Description
Join us for the inaugural A Running Start 5K on Saturday, September 7th at 6:30pm at Coldstream Research Park.
Come run or walk with us and some new-to-running recovery guys to support A Running Start program for men and women in addiction recovery.
A Running Start believes in the healing power of physical activity for those affected by situational homelessness and addiction. Our running community provides a unique accountability and can be used as a tool to prevent relapse and encourage recovery. We make sure those we help have proper training and shoes and we help pay for their 5K registration fees.
Come show support for our runners and their dedication to new beginnings! Your support will help them continue the journey toward new, healthy lives.
A Running Start 5K features commemorative race shirts, a DJ Stitz, and Overall Top 3 M/F Awards. Strollers, walkers, and dogs on fixed length leashes welcomed. We look forward to seeing you there! We'll also have water, bananas, granola bars and shaved ice cones (Thanks Wildcat Moving!). The first 150 registrants will also receive a coupon from DV8 Kitchen for a free breakfast sandwich or cinnamon roll.

A Running Start - Our Race Charity Beneficiary
Proceeds and runner donations from our race will benefit A Running Start and help more men and women get a fresh new start through running and community.
A Running Start is a running community committed to encouraging, growing and helping new runners from challenged backgrounds get a fresh start in life! A Running Start helps those living through uncertainty — because of homelessness or addiction — to learn how to become accomplished runners.
A Running Start has worked with adults in crisis at Fayette County Drug Court, Lighthouse Ministries, The Hope Center and Chrysalis House, which treats women's substance abuse and mental health issues. A Running Start is financed by fundraising events and individual donations of shoes and clothing.
Running instruction is adjusted because people will start off with varying levels of fitness. Some will start out at a seven-minute mile but some mothers will be challenged simply by a run/walk behind their baby strollers. A Running Start simply asks that participants be clean and sober for 30 days before beginning to run.
The group is financed by fundraising events and individual donations of shoes and clothing.
