We've all been thrown for a loop by the COVID-19 pandemic. We know it's been hard on the community services our races support as donations from races have dried up due to cancelled events, and we know it's been hard for runners to keep training for events that might or might not happen in the fall. Bluegrass Runners wants to change that with a new kind of streaker challenge! Starting July 5 and running through the Sunday before Labor Day, we're going to commit to run or walk at least one mile every single day. Many of us who are training for races will do more. And we're going to use this commitment to ourselves to raise much needed funds for the charities we sponsor: Arbor Youth Services, CASA of Lexington, Central Music Acadeny, E7 Kids' Cafe, FEED, Ironcology, and Surgery On Sunday.
We've designed this virtual challenge to support all levels of runner/walker. How's that work? Well, you choose your own goal for total miles during the 64 day challenge, and commit to completing at least one mile each day. Track your mileage on an app that allows you to keep a log such as Strava, Garmin, or Runkeeper and report it via online form.
Everyone wins simply by participating, but we'll also be holding a drawing for gift cards from local businesses after the challenge is over. Every participant will have the opportunity to win one of several gift card from local businesses based on how well they do in the challenge by THEIR standards. Just signing up for the challenge and running or walking one time will get you an entry into the drawing (isn't that first one always the hardest?), and you'll get a second entry for meeting your self selected mileage goal of at least 64 miles. You'll get a third entry for entering at the beginning of the race and running or walking at least one mile every single day for your 64 day streak. Didn't sign up on day 1 of the challenge? No problem--you can still meet your mileage goal and get a chance in the gift card drawing even if you won't complete the 64 day streak, but you can also add results from the initial two weeks until July 20. After that we are asking entrants to enter mileage everyday.
The more participants we have, the more gift cards we'll buy and the more we'll be able to give back to the community! So sign up today!
