Description
It's time for #TeamKentucky to SHINE!
Run, walk, hike, or treadmill 13.1 miles, and we'll mail you a finisher's medal, commemorative shirt, and digital race bib.
We may not be able to run together, but running in general is not cancelled.
Timeframe: March 28th - May 9th (Our time period culminates on the first Saturday in May, our traditional date for the Kentucky Derby.)
Distance: Run, walk, hike, or treadmill 13.1 miles. This can be done in one single run/walk/hike or break it up and accumulate your mileage.
Race Benefits: Our primary race beneficiary is God's Pantry Food Bank. They play an important role in distributing food to the hungry. At this challenging time, their resources are stretched yet are needed more than ever, so this is our chance to make a difference. We will also make a donation to the Team Kentucky Fund, The Team Kentucky Fund, established by Governor Andy Beshear, provides assistance to Kentuckians who have been severely financially impacted by the COVID-19 emergency.
Packets: Race packets (commemorative shirt and finisher's medal) will be mailed out on April 28th. We will make a determination in late April to determine if locals can pickup packets in person or if we'll only mail out packets. You can also download, share or print a digital race bib from your RunSignUp.com account (see instructions below).
Social Sharing: We have set up a FACEBOOK EVENT PAGE where participants can share their "Big Day" and completion of their virtual race. While we don't need everyone to submit their actual race time (since there are no awards based on time) we would like everyone to post on this page when they finish their race and share a photo, location and (optional) Garmin/workout data. We encourage you to tag #TeamKentucky and #TeamRaceRise. For those who are not on Facebook you may email me at Bob@RaceRise.com when you complete your Half Marathon distance.
Who Can Participant?: Anyone! We only ask that you follow the CDC Guidelines related to the COVID-19 pandemic regarding social distancing and the limitation on group gatherings. This is great way to unite virtually with your corporate group, place of worship, school/classroom, club or team. It could even serve as a virtual family reunion.
Form a Social Team: Running and racing is a social activity. While we can't run or race in large groups for the time being, you can still show your pride by starting or joining an existing Half Marathon Social Team for your virtual runs. Name your team after your family, company, club, church, running group, or come up with a completely new & creative team name.
Pricing: March 23-26th ($25.00), March 27th-May 6th ($30.00)
Kids (12 & Under) - March 23-26th ($15.00), March 27th-April 5th ($20.00), April 6th-May 6th ($25.00). Price includes commemorative shirt, finisher's medal, digital race bib, and shipping.
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
What is a virtual race?
A virtual race is a race that you can run or walk in any location (your favorite running route, on the treadmill, on the track, on trails). You have the flexibility and convenience of running it at any time of day and at your own pace.
What Distance is this race?
We decided to make this virtual race a half marathon (13.1 miles). A number of half marathons have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, yet so many runners are already trained for this distance. We are providing the option of doing this distance all at once (one run/walk) or in smaller segments (i.e. 13 one mile walks over two weeks time). We welcome walkers, hikers, joggers, and runners.
When will the race take place?
Anytime between March 28th and May 9th. You may chose to run it on the date your race was supposed to take place. We use the honor system. We will create a Facebook Event Page where participants can share their "Big Day." If you do the virtual race in segments, you can post when you complete your last segment.
How do I report my results?
We use the honor system. We'll encourage participants to share their "Big Day" (selfie, workout data, etc..) on our FACEBOOK EVENT PAGE set up for the race. Your time to complete the virtual race is not important as we will not be providing awards. If you do the 13.1 miles in segments then just post on your last segment when you complete the Half Marathon.
What kind of swag will participants get?
Registered paid participants will receive a one-of-a-kind finisher’s medal, commemorative shirt, and a digital race bib (with specific race logo). We do have a "No shirt option" to donate proceeds or save $3.00 on your registration.
When will my packet arrive?
Packets will be shipped on Tuesday, April 28th, so that you should have them by May 2nd, the culminating day of our virtual race.
Cancellation/Refunds
Unfortunately, we cannot offer a refund for this event. (Even weather will not cancel the race since you pick your day!) All sales are final.

Bringing Kentucky Together To Make A Difference!
God's Pantry Food Bank --- Our Charity Race Beneficiary
Our race will benefit God's Pantry Food Bank. At this challenging time God's Pantry will play a key role (as they always do) in the storage and distribution of food to the hungry. The race represents out chance to make a difference. Consider making an additional donation on top of your virtual race registration. 100% of race donations will go to support God's Pantry Food Bank and their mission.
Hunger can affect anyone, regardless of age, ethnicity, or gender, urban and rural dwellers alike. Together with more than 400 food pantries and meal programs, God’s Pantry Food Bank works to alleviate hunger in Central and Eastern Kentucky.
The Team Kentucky Fund
In addition to the support we'll provide God's Pantry Food Bank, we will also be making a donation on behalf of the race to the Team Kentucky Fund. This fund was established by Governor Andy Beshear and will provide assistance to Kentuckians who have been severely financially impacted by the COVID-19 emergency.
Centers For Disease Control (CDC) Guidelines Related to the COVID-19 Pandemic
We ask that all registrants certify that they will comply with the current CDC Guidelines and other directives from the Governor of their respective state in participating and completing their half marathon. Our strong advice is to "RUN ALONE" or with your immediate family members. We all need to do our part to "stop the spread". Be safe and do your part.
Here are some ways to be safe and still get your workout, training or half marathon completed:
- RUN ALONE! We'll have plenty of opportunities to run in groups when this is all over. If you do run with a partner maintain 6 feet or more distance at all times.
- Use common sense about where you run and when you run. Going to run 8 miles in a busy park on a nice Saturday morning probably isn't your best choice. You may need to change up when you run and where you run.
- Vary your routes. This is a great opportunity to switch things up, just be sure that you are running in a safe area with wide paths, roadway or trails.
- Be aware of your surroundings. We are all vying for some of the same space when we are out exercising. Be courteous of others and providing plenty of room when you pass. Crossing the street when possible is a great strategy.
- Consider more workouts from home. Lots of great things are happening with technology, online classes and exercise instruction.
