YPAL's Race for the Roses Virtual 5K

The first Saturday in May is normally reserved for the fastest two minutes in sports, with the entire city of Louisville shutting down and shifting its gaze toward the spires. However, this year we’re in a different type of shutdown. However, that doesn’t mean we still can’t get our race on. Lace up the sneakers, get your watch or smartphone GPS set, and join us on May 2 for the Race for the Roses Virtual 5K!

How does a Virtual 5K work, you ask? Unlike a normal 5K, a virtual 5K allows you to run (or walk) in any location. You are able to participate on your own (following social distancing guidelines) at your own speed, starting whenever is convenient for you. Follow the following steps:

1. Register for the Race for the Roses Virtual 5K.
2. Between April 26 and May 2, complete a 5K walk or run. You can utilize a GPS watch or a smartphone to record your distance. Runner’s World has a great list of apps you can use (most of which are free) for GPS.
3. Share your virtual 5K experience on social media using #RacefortheRoses and tagging Louisville Running Company and YPAL.
4. Once you’ve completed your 5K, visit our race website to submit your results. Click here for a link showing exactly how to submit results.
5. By the end of May, you will receive a custom finisher medal and race bib in the mail to commemorate your Race for the Roses experience.
6. All participants who complete the 5K and submit their results will be entered to randomly win a number of prizes from local Louisville businesses.

The proceeds raised from Race for the Roses registrations will support the Young Professionals Association of Louisville (YPAL). YPAL provides leadership development, educational opportunities and philanthropic support to Louisville’s Young Professionals for the benefit of the local community. The mission of YPAL is to connect, engage and develop metro Louisville’s young professionals through community, professional and social opportunities. Through the Covid-19 pandemic, our community's young professionals are experiencing job displacement and financial struggles. YPAL is here and ready to support these young professionals as they rebuild in our new normal.
