Shelby Trails has a lot to offer! This race isn't so technical that it is difficult for beginners or first timers, but at the same time offers all of the technicality, hills, and terrain that make a trail run just that... a Trail run!
4 Miler:
This event is perfect for those just getting into trail running or looking for fast and fun race.
The four mile race will consist of one loop on our 2015 course. The course starts wide, fast, and flat to allow for everyone to spread out and get comfortable. It then turns into a row of cedars and winds down along a creek bottom. Before long the course ducks into the woods and crosses the creek on a small wooden bridge. From there the trail climbs up a slight hill, turning through the woods and leading runners down a long row of cedars within the woods themselves. From there the course continues to to include some technical single track trails and wide grass/dirt trails.
8 Miler:
The 8 miler is great for anyone looking to get themselves or their gear tuned up for Lovin' the Hills. This division will run two loops on the 2015 course (4 miles). The course starts wide, fast, and flat to allow for everyone to spread out and get comfortable. It then ducks into a row of cedars and winds down along a creek bottom. Before long the course ducks into the woods and crosses the creek on a small wooden bridge. From there the trail climbs up a slight hill, turning through the woods and leading runners down a long row of cedars within the woods themselves. From there the course continues to to include some technical single track trails and wide grass/dirt trails. Upon reaching the finish line those running the 8 miler will continue on the course for a final loop.
Course
This course is perfect for first timers, or those gearing up for Louisville's Lovin' the Hills! For the most part it consist of grass and dirt trails that wind through pastures and woodlands. There are technical stretches and some hills, it is a true trail run but is not overwhelmingly technical or difficult. A beginner can expect to be challenged and gain some experience/ skills. More experienced trail runners will find this course to be very enjoyable and fast with some interesting landscape features.
