Description
Penelope was born in January 10, 2013 at Central Baptist hospital, Lexington, My. She spent 3 weeks in the NICU at University of Kentucky Children's hospital. Before birth she was diagnosed with congenital Cytomegalovirus (cCMV), the chance of survival was slim. Cytomegalovirus is usually harmless and has symptoms similar to the flu, it can be passed through bodily fluids and most commonly by children. But if caught for the first time during pregnancy it can be fatal for the unborn child. The outcome can be different for each child, for Penelope it has significantly affected her health. She has been diagnosed with severe spastic quadriplegia, hearing and vision issues, seizures, abnormalities of the brain, microcephaly, polymicrogyria, bilateral hip dislocation, g-tube dependent, feeding issues, poor immune system, and Failure-to-Thrive.
Although Penelope faces the world with a fight, she does so gracefully. She endures countless hours of therapies and doctors appointments, working hard and staying strong all the time. She may not be able to sit independently, walk, or even hold her own head up, but she is living life to the fullest. She is a blessing to so many and has a laughter that can make anyone's day better. She loves to listen to music and kick 1her legs like she's dancing. Penelope is a happy child and so so loved, the fight for her will never end, she will have a better quality of life because no one is going to give up on her.
