Description
Red Stick Roller Derby presents Red Stick on the Run, a virtual race for those looking to stay active while socially distancing. This will be our first time hosting a race, although if you’re a local runner in Baton Rouge, LA, you may have seen us cheering you on at a water stop. We are ecstatic and hope you will be too! We are offering the option of 5k.
Don’t like to run? No problem! Our goal is to get everyone up and moving whether it’s from running, walking, biking, or, our personal favorite, skating!
Red Stick Roller Derby is a league of skaters, officials, and volunteers who relies on our league members and our community for support and growth. This fundraiser is to help our league recover the loss of revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We pride ourselves on our continued growth and empowerment of all members of our league, future and present.
Just as we represent Red Stick Roller Derby, we also represent the community in which most of us live. The community is what keeps us going strong and connected to the people of Baton Rouge and Louisiana. A portion of our proceeds will go to the Baton Rouge Youth Coalition. BRYC provides high-achieving, under-resourced high school students with the best college-access resources money can buy--for free. During the 2020-2021 school year, they are supporting 278 high school "Fellows" in grades 9 through 12 across nine school districts, including one student from Texas and 12 from Mississippi. More information can be found at thebryc.org
The race can be completed at any time within the month of November. Complete the race all in one go or break it up as needed; whichever suits you best.
