The Danimal 50K, 25K & 7.78 Miler

Saturday, Oct. 20th 2018
About the event
Team ASAP invites you to come suffer the Lake Area's only ultra marathon. Nestled in the heart of Southwest Louisiana, Sam Houston Jones State Park consists mostly of single track, root rich dirt trails. This race is perfect for the newbies and it is sure to challenge even the most seasoned runners. The adventure is scheduled to take place Saturday, October 20, 2018. We will begin with a mandatory pre-race meeting at the main pavilion at 7:45 and the race will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. For those wanting a more "relaxed" afternoon, we do have a 25k option and we even have a 1 loop option consisting of 7.78 miles for the laziest of you out there. The trails will be open to the public so beware of cyclists, other runners, and bird watchers. Earphones are allowed, just be courteous to those who are faster than you and get out of their way. We will have 2 unmanned aid stations consisting of water and electrolyte drink and 2 fully equipped aid stations. Food will be served at the main pavilion/start,finish line after the race, so stick around and enjoy the company. Families, your cheer squads, etc. are encouraged to hang out and grub as well. Awards will be given as runners finish. The race will take place rain or shine ( unless there's lightning).
The Course
Due to the State removing some of the original park trails for the "Long Leaf Pine" project, we have had to revamp the Danimal course. One loop is now approximately 7.78 miles in length but the 50k will still be four loops and the 25k will be 2 loops. The race is solely on trails. The only time a runner should be off the trails is to cross from the Orange trail to the Purple trail. If you find yourself running on the road, YOU ARE LOST. We will have ample signage for all to see. One loop is as follows: Starting from the pavilion, head east through the park grounds to the Orange trail. Runners will follow the Orange trail for approximately 1.7 miles then turning "right" onto the "Upper Orange" spur. Follow the trail north where runners will cross the entrance road to enter the "Purple" trail. Continue on the Purple trail until it intersects with the "Blue" trail. Runners will take THE UPPER BLUE trail. Follow the blue trail for approximately 3.5 miles then veer right onto the "Yellow" trail. Runners will continue down the yellow trail until they reach the "Green" trail. Turning right onto the "green" trail will lead runners back to the cabins by the boat launch where the runners will cross the boat launch and run down by the river back to the pavilion. That is 1 loop.
Cut Off Times
We have a very strict cut off time of 8 hours imposed upon us by the park. This is one of the main reasons this race is extremely difficult for first time 50k ers. We do have a 75-80% drop rate on the 50k. Everyone will have 8 hours to complete all three distances. If anyone does not finish within the cutoff time, they will receive a finishers award but will not have an official time recorded.
Packet pickup will go down from 6:30 until 7:45 race morning at the main pavillion.  Every runner must check in race morning beginning at 6:30.  At this time you will sign a waiver and receive further instructions
Pacers are allowed for the 50 k runners only. Pacers can join their runner on the 3rd lap. NO MUELING! Runners must carry their own hydration, food, etc. Only 1 pacer per runner at a time.
Awards will be given to the overall male and female in each distance and 1st,2nd, and 3rd male and female in 10 year age groups as follows: 0-19,20-29,30-39,40-49,50-59,60 and up. Of course we will have the "coveted" DFL (Dead Flippin' Last) award for each distance. The 1 loop awards will begin at 10 a.m. That's two hours from the start time. The other distance awards will be handed out as soon as the age groups are filled.
NO pets are allowed on the course. You cannot run with your dog, cat, or lemur. No strollers, roller blades, skateboards, or hover boards allowed on the course.
Race Morning
Every person entering the park must pay a $3.00 entry fee at the gate. This is set by the State. The gate will be open at 6:00 a.m.. If no one is at the gate to collect your entry fee, you will need to fill out a day use envelope and insert your $3.00 to drop in the box. Also, the park is very strict on the speed limit, please obey the posted speed limit. Parking will be available by the pavilion and all along the river front. DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS, RANGER RICK WILL TICKET YOU!!
Drop In Distance
If on race morning you realize you didn't eat your Wheaties and you cannot complete the distance you signed up for, YOU MUST NOTIFY THE RACE DIRECTORS BEFORE THE START OF THE RACE. If you do not notify us and you drop to a lower distance during the race, you WILL receive a finishers award for the distance completed but you WILL NOT be eligible for age group awards.
Refund Policy
There will be NO REFUNDS, ROLL OVERS, OR BIB TRANSFERS! If for any reason you choose to not start the race, you can still pick up your packet, but you will be labeled as an honorary sponsor of The Danimal. Thank you very much!
