Teaching method and schedule

Teaching Method: Class takes place via Zoom in real-time with actual instructors providing a dynamic mixture of seminar-style and lecture-based teaching, with additional group work and role play.

Day One Agenda, 8:00-5:00

  • Introductions, Attendance, Background Information, Case Studies (Marathoner, First-Time 5k, and 5k/10k racing)
  • Types of Runners and Their Training Needs
  • Putting it Together with Physiology
  • Training in Heat and at Altitude
  • Lunch Break -- 35 minutes to get food and recharge yourself
  • Types of Running: Building a Periodized Program (definition of terms, key principles, methods for deveoping workouts)
  • Day One Conclusions, Looking Ahead to Day Two

Overnight
You will be asked to sketch out training plans based on the Case Studies introduced in Day One. This informal and ungraded assignment asks you to apply materials from Day One to prepare for Day Two's group work.

Day Two Agenda, 8:00-5:00

  • Reflection on Day One
  • The Business of Coaching (marketing, operations, financial, legal, ethical, and AI considerations)
  • Sports Psychology and Mental Health (client management, key concepts)
  • Lunch Break -- 35 minutes to get food and recharge yourself
  • Building Programs (small group work, presentations, and conversations)
  • Supplemental, as time allows: Form, Injuries, Nutrition
  • Conclusions, Attendance, and Next Steps

    NOTE: While every cohort receives the same curriculum, every class experience has a different dynamic, so the specific schedule may be modified to suit the specific needs of the weekend program.
