Thanks for your interest in participating in the 2020 DAM TRI & DU!!
Note Published on June 1, 2020
First off we hope this email finds you and your family healthy and staying sane. We are quite sure you are as happy as we are with the string of beautiful weather we've been given, allowing us to kick off our open water swimming, gorgeous outdoor rides and sweaty running!!
With many of you reaching out over the past week and just 40 days till the scheduled DAM Tri & DU, we wanted to communicate with you our decision at this point in time.
This is a turn key time in planning for the event. Items need to be ordered for on time delivery, volunteer recruitment, safety meetings & bi-weekly town meetings should be starting. As you can imagine we've been coordinating with the all three towns involved with the event, state and other local departments, following their guidelines as we manage our response and make plans and decisions as new information is released. With the latest mandates Gov. Baker has set forth through his 4 phase approach, we don't foresee the size gatherings (at the state or local level) being anywhere close to the number needed to host the DAM on July 12th. Size restrictions combined with Amesbury cancelling all their special events through July 4th & even more concerning our host venue not yet open to the public as of today, does not bode well for such an involved production next month. The lack of swim training opportunities available to the vast majority of our field of athletes, due to pool, beach/lake and park closures, now introduces a major safety concern; which is always of our highest priority.
We want to see the DAM 2020 happen just as much as you do so we have decided to POSTPONE. We are prepared to follow any/all guidelines laid out by the Town of Amesbury for this event to happen, even if we are at a reduced capacity for this year. Unfortunately, the special event committee isn't permitted to officially grant us a new date, the new date we have submitted is Sunday, September 27th.
If you had pre-registered, you will have 3 three options laid out for you in a separate email to follow from RunSignUp, which will include:
1) Race on 9/27
2) Defer my entry to 2021 or 2022
3) Receive a High5EM race credit valid through 2022
These options will be included in a separate email from RunSignUp that will prompt you to select an option.
The postponement date will be a GO if all of the following are met.
1) The Town of Amesbury grants us our requested date when they begin reviewing special event permits
2) State and local authorities implement an appropriate size gathering allotment allowing us to host the event
3) A minimum of 100 participants select the postponement date option
We know this isn't the news any of us want to hear, another "race postponement" but we feel it is definitely better then an all out cancellation. No one knows what will happen next week, so as event organizers, it's hard for us to swallow our whole season being swept away, so we can only hope that scheduling later in the season will allow us to race!
In the meantime, please continue to be safe, keep things light, find the joy in the small things, work on your non race tan (a welcomed change), try some new bike routes, give virtual racing a shot, we've got a few of our own virtual charity races coming up if you want to check those out at www.high5em.com
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email us.
Sending you a Virtual High5!
Ashley, Caren & the High5EM Squad
