Description

Pete Frates 5K

The Pete Frates 5K honors the late Pete Frates, who was internationally recognized as an advocate for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) awareness and education. Prior to succumbing to ALS, Pete successfully helped raise $225 million globally to #strikeoutals through the ice bucket challenge.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2021 Pete Frates 5K! We are happy to announce that the date is set for the 2022 race: Sunday, November 6th. We hope to see you all there! Funds from the 2022 Pete Frates 5K will support the addition of a psychologist or psychiatric mental-health nurse practitioner to the ALS multidisciplinary care team at the Healey Center, addressing an enormous need for people with ALS.

The primary symptom of ALS is the progressive loss of strength, yet the psychological impact of the disease is also tremendous. While quality of life ratings remain relatively high, even in the face of increasing physical impairment, the emotional stress also remains high. Access to expert psychological support to navigate these changes and to offer coping strategies, will provide a positive impact on quality of life for people with ALS.

We invite you to run, walk, or wheel the race:

Date: Sunday, November 6
Time: 10:00am
Location: Lynch Park, Beverly, MA

Note: You may also participate virtually this year by selecting the route of your choice between October 22nd and November 6th.

Long-sleeved t-shirts will be provided to all participants who sign up by 5PM on Wednesday, October 19th.

Participants can pick up their bib and event t-shirt on November 4th or November 5th.

This year, the AMG Charitable Foundation is organizing the Pete Frates 5K. The Foundation donates to a variety of non-profit organizations and community programs globally, with a focus on supporting educational, cultural, environmental, health, social, and other charitable initiatives in communities where AMG teammates live and work. In 2018, AMG was a cornerstone donor in helping to establish the Sean M. Healey & AMG Center for ALS, with the goal of advancing scientific research in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and developing effective treatments for people with ALS. AMG’s investment in the Sean M. Healey & AMG Center for ALS has already helped to fund a number of research breakthroughs, broaden the availability of treatments globally, and attract talented scientists to the ALS field.
