Newton Turkey Trot 2020 Virtual Edition presented by Wegmans
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are planning a virtual event that supports the Newton Turkey Trot mission while at the same time adhering to local and federal guidelines around social distancing. Runners will run their own virtual race during the week of November 21-29 over the Thanksgiving week anywhere in the country. The beautiful, USATF Certified, Newton Turkey Trot course as well as the 1 mile fun run will be marked with our signs for those who want to experience the original Newton Turkey Trot course. Our goals this November remain, as always, our youth’s awareness of health and wellness and of community service. We will continue our partnership of providing support to both the Newton Food Pantry and the Travis Roy Foundation.
The Newton Food Pantry has been doing an amazing job, continuing to put food on our neighbors’ tables. During the current crisis, they saw an unprecedented increase in new clients struggling with food insecurity and the Newton Food Pantry has been serving food and personal care products to close to 1,000 Newton residents. We are standing by our commitment to raise $10,000 for the Newton Food Pantry to support families over the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Travis Roy Foundation’s Ethan Wang Fund continues to provide funding for spinal cord research, medical and rehabilitative therapies and adaptive equipment. This special fund reflects the mission of the Travis Roy Foundation to help victims of spinal cord injuries achieve independence and to enjoy lives as full and complete as possible.
Newton Turkey Trot 2020 Virtual Edition has been re-designed so that individuals, families and small groups can run their own virtual race. Participants registered by November 2nd will receive their awesome Newton Turkey Trot tee-shirts by November 20th in the mail. Bibs can be printed online and participants can then choose from several suggested routes through our beautiful city, during the week of November 21-29th to run their race. Alternatively, teams or individuals can run their own course, wherever they are.
We are famous for our prizes! There will be prizes for the number of routes completed and the number of “races” run by each team or individual as well as prizes for the team selfies in their Turkey Trot Tees in front of our branded signage.
The Newton Turkey Trot is a family event that has drawn more than 1,000 participants each year from our community and beyond. Both the Newton Food Pantry and The Travis Roy Foundation's Ethan Wang fund need your support more than ever. We are staying positive that we can get through this and reach our goals together. We hope you will continue to support our race and your community.
Thank you and be well,
the Newton Turkey Trot Team
