Description

Because it takes a village ….

There is a beautiful warrior we all know who has silently fought and already overcome cancer twice….

You all probably know her because she keeps on trucking on and doesn’t share her worries, and in this almost three year long battle has not only never asked for help, but please know we had to wait for her to be in surgery to create this page and get help for her!

First she fought breast cancer.

Then mouth, neck and lymph node cancer.

Then some cancerous cells in the neck.

Now she’s had to have brain tumors removed.

This warrior needs rest, and for her to rest and recover, she needs help.

Back in 2020 when the whole world shut down, went on quarantine and worried about masks and virtual school; this single mother to three preteens found out she had breast cancer.

During the time when the whole world raised fears about germs being spread and closed their doors in protection mode, Kim also was battling the horrible C word as the sole provider to her kids with her career in real estate put on pause with the rest of the world.

So she had to worry about work, her kids, finances, quarantine, virtual school oh…. and  fighting cancer.

What did she do then? She helped me move into my house, smiled and said she’d beat this and her only worry? Keeping her kids safe and worry free.

Kim leaned on her mom and cold capped her head in hopes to not lose her hair and keep her kids from worrying.

She fought, and she won.

2021 rolled around with kid returning to schools, and everyone excited for “normal again”

Kim was getting back into the groove, recovering and trying to work when cancer decided to revisit her for another battle. This time in her mouth, neck and lymph nodes. Still Kim smiled, called her mom, and these two warrior women kept things as normal as possible for these three kids.

“Normal” being that Kim had a portion of her tongue cut out and had to learn some speech again. Yeah, “normal” …

But still she smiled, still she fought ..and still she won.

Then came two cancerous lumps in her neck. Removal, treatments and back to the world smiling again…

The small group that knew Kim’s battle watched as she smiled, worked when she could and her and her mom kept on ….. well, they “kept on keeping on”

Kim kept on trying to work and keep her kids doing all the things kids do.

But this week, 10/2/2022, cancer is trying to knock Kim down again.

She had to have brain tumors removed.

She’s still smiling …

Still smiling and fighting to get up and get her kids off to school….

Still trying to work when she can….

Still trying to provide for her kids….

Still keeping things as “normal” as she can….

That’s where we all come in.

It’s time to build the village to let Kim rest.

It’s time for Kim to spend some time smiling with her kids and not worrying about anything other than recovering.  And she fought us on asking for help....because that's the type of person she is.... but during surgery well, we have moved forward in an effort to build a village for this warrior.

The bat signal is up.

She has a lot of medicines and treatments to pay for. She wants to keep “the roof over her head and clothes on everyone’s backs”…. and all the things that come along with being a human and having children. She has special food because she’s lost so much weight.

Her birthday is coming up on 11/16.
So in November, I am asking my running family to take on some miles for Kim and show her some love and support as she battles in her fight!
Run so her kids know, they are not alone in this.  Run for her mom who has been by her side day and night helping her fight. They need to know they are not alone, and we are sharing our strength and grit with them.

Run/walk 1.16

Run walk 11.16
