The Pontificator is named in honor of MSgt Casey Pontious, who served the Air Force from March 2000 until his untimely passing on 17 April 2019. During his career, he was widely regarded leader and mentor to those around him. Casey was an Airman that would do anything for anybody. He would run himself ragged to ensure no one felt unimportant or unloved. He would stay home during Thanksgiving just so the people in his unit had a place to go for the holiday. He was always making people laugh—usually with really bad jokes—and always felt obligated to share his wisdom, whether the recipient wanted it or not. Casey believed someone’s rank did not define their ability to lead and throughout his career, he often challenged the status quo or helped those that were struggling. He often ended up helping his supervisors in ways that most supervisors helped their subordinates. He was an Airman who spoke truth to power, known for saying, “I know what my rank/career can handle, and I’m ok with that”. Casey was proof that inspirational leadership is manifest in all styles, in all vocations, and at all ranks. He was a true Wingman who thrived in service to his Airmen.
