Blue Crab Bolt Virtual Challenge

Thu July 1 - Sun August 15
Produced by EX2 Adventures

Description

The purpose of this challenge is simple...to help keep you active and outside this summer with a little friendly individual and team competition!!  From July 1st to August 15th (6 weeks...ish), your goal is to log as many miles as possible walking, running, swimming, paddling, and/or cycling!  We started this virtual challenge last year when all our in-person Blue Crab Bolt races were cancelled, but since everyone had so much fun (including us!) we decided to bring it back again this summer!!

You can participate as an individual and also on a team of up to 10 people.  Special prizes will be awarded to the top individuals and teams with the most:

  • Total miles
  • Walking miles
  • Running miles
  • Cycling miles
  • Paddling miles
  • Swimming miles
  • Elevation gain
  • Pushups...yup!

Charity partnerships
During registration, you will have an opportunity to support one of three local non-profits: Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts (MORE), Button Farm Living History Center, and Interfaith Works.  Each of these organizations make a significant impact in Montgomery County, Maryland (the host county of our in-person Blue Crab Bolt Trail Running Series) and we are proud to partner with them.  The goals of the partnerships are to first and foremost to raise awareness of the services these organizations perform for our community.  In addition, we hope to raise funds that will directly support their efforts.  Please consider making a donation when you register.

How The Challenge Works

Step 1:  Sign up!

Step 2:  Invite your friends and family to join the challenge.

Step 3:  Enter your personal goal distance (can be changed at any time).

Step 4:  Get out there and log your activities!

From July 1st to August 15, your goal is to complete as much distance as possible and to get outside as much as possible. After each activity (or at least weekly), submit your activity information (activity type and distance) in RunSignUp. Don't worry...it's easy and instructions are below.  You can also (optionally) add in the time and elevation gain of each activity as well as comments.  If you want to participate in the pushup challenge, then add the number of pushups you did in the comments (e.g., 100 pushups)  The more data you add, the more information you have at the end of the challenge.

Join the EX2 Facebook group to share your progress and support other participants!  You can also share pictures from your runs using #bluecrabbolt.

Weekly emails from the race director will include results updates, suggestions for places to explore in the DC area, and maybe even mini-challenges with special prizes!

Logging Your Miles

  • Go to the Results page.
  • Click Submit Virtual Results and then search for your registration.
  • Click the Log Activities next to your name.
  • If you aren't logged in, you can quickly verify yourself by phone number or email.
  • Click Add an Activity and then enter the date and distance of your run. You may also enter the time and elevation gain and a comment.  Entering the time will enable the system to calculate your average pace.  Entering elevation will enable the system to track you total elevation.  Pretty cool huh!!

Note: If you had multiple activities in a day, you can enter each new activity by clicking "Add Another Activity."  Don't forget to hit submit results when you are done!
