Full Steam Ahead 1 mile color run/walk
Event Description
Relay Elementary School Full Steam Ahead 1 mile run/walk aims to bring our community together for a morning of movement and merriment. The 2026 event will be a color run! All registrants receive a FREE Kona Ice 9oz treat and photobooth photo strip. Come enjoy a fun morning of games, music, and school spirit!
What's a color run? It is a non-competitive run/walk where participants wear white and get doused in vibrant color powder. Our color run stations will be located around the 1mi loop. Participants are encouraged to wear a white shirt or bandana and walk through the color stations to get color powder on their clothes.*
What to expect: This is a 1 mile loop traversing paved and grassy surfaces in and around Relay Elementary property. It is considered stroller-friendly over multi-terrain areas.
Our event will have staggered starts by grade waves. This is an untimed run/walk, but participants may use stopwatches or other gear to time themselves. If a youth participant is trying to race themselves, please consider having them line up at the start of their grade wave. Participants may walk, run, skip and dance their way through the course.
Families may self-select the wave they wish to participate in, e.g. 5th grade children who wish to walk with younger siblings during a 2nd grade wave may do so. Safety is a number 1 priority and being aware of other participants on and off the course requires adult supervision. Students may not participate without a parent/guardian present.
Strollers will start at the rear of each wave.
Pets are not allowed at this event. Service and working animals are allowed per ADA law.
*The powder is temporary and will wash off - but bring a towel or change of clothes if you are concerned about transfer in your vehicle.
We are using family pricing for this event which means you can sign up your entire family for a set cost. You must register everyone at once (checkout all your members in the same cart transaction) for this to work. You may come back and register more family members later, but you will be charged the minimum $5.
Race bibs will go home with the oldest Relay Elemenrary student Friday, May 1. Bibs for everyone in your family will be in this packet; if you have friends who are joining, you will be responsible for getting them their race bib(s). A race bib will also be used to obtain your Free Kona Ice.
You can walk the course, but if that's not your jam either, that's OK - this is a community event and we really need course support plus volunteers. Find a place along the course, set up your yard chair and cheer on the partipants. We also need volunteers to help us out, and there's many opportunities to get involved with the celebration.
Note: only registered race participants with bibs will get a free Kona ice, but Kona will sell to any other guest as well.
Limited parking will be available in the school lot. The bus lot will not be available for parking. We encourage folks to use public street parking, carpooling, riding bike or walking.
Pets are not allowed at this event. Service and working animals are allowed per ADA law.
We are having an untimed event with waves. We encourage you to self-seed - to pick the wave that best fits your family. This means that the oldest grade (grade 5) and their families will line up first. Once they have gone about a half mile, we'll send off the next wave, and etc. until our youngest crew starts their race. Listen for the announcement to line up in your preferred wave.
We are doing it this way so that or shortest and youngest participants can have just as fun and exciting experience without worry of being overrun by bigger and older participants.
Grown-ups are expected to monitor their child(ren) at all times.
We are going to race rain or shine! If there are severe weather warnings that prevent us from holding this event due to safety reasons, we cannot guarantee refunds or rescheduling. You are offered an opportunity to purchase race insurance during registration if you are concerned about this possibility.
Good news - this is a color run celebration! We will also have games, a photobooth, and other outdoor activities to do while waiting to start your wave or while waiting for your friends and family to finish. We will also have a health and wellness mini pop-up with local providers and organizations sharing resources. This will all be located in the bus loop parking area and is open to the community at-large.
If you are experiencing financial hardship and the cost to participate is a barrier, please email relaypta@gmail.com to discuss options.
