Welcome to the registration page for the 2020 *VIRTUAL* KOSCIUSZKO FREEDOM RUN: 4TH EDITION!

The DC diplomatic community’s favorite run returns this year in a virtual format, opening the door to new possibilities! We invite all runners in the U.S. to celebrate with us the legacy of Thaddeus Kosciuszko, a Revolutionary War hero who served in the Continental Army and who helped America win its independence. Thaddeus Kosciuszko stood for equality and liberty for all and was described by Thomas Jefferson as “the purest son of liberty.”

The 2020 Kosciuszko Freedom Run: 4th Edition is organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Washington, D.C. and by the Embassy of Lithuania in Washington, D.C. in collaboration with Montgomery County Road Runners Club.

About the Race

The same "rules" apply as in our previous in-person editions, with one small exception: you can now run whenever and wherever you want! Register for the race and head outside for your 5K run between October 8th and 31st.  Once you’re done, use this website to self-report your time!

Registration is FREE but don’t delay – the first 200 registered finishers of the run will receive a custom-made commemorative medals!

Bonus - Social Media Contest!

As this year’s run will take place under an honor system, we would  like to reward those runners who produce the most creative Facebook, Twitter or Instagram post about their 2020 Kosciuszko Freedom Run experience. We will provide goodie bags with unique prizes for the four best submissions!

The rules of the contest are simple:

  • Register and take part in the 2020 KOSCIUSZKO FREEDOM RUN
  • Take a photo(s) that capture(s) your experience in running the 2020 KOSCIUSZKO FREEDOM RUN
  • Post your photo with a short description in English (max. 280 characters) on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram using the hashtags #KosciuszkoFreedomRun and tagging the Polish and Lithuanian Embassies:  FB: @EmbassyofPolandWashingtonDC & @LTinUSA;  TT: @PolishEmbassyUS and @LTembassyUS; IG: @polishembassyus & @ltinusa
  • Photos and/or captions referring to Thaddeus Kosciuszko’s American legacy (i.e. a runner showcasing a Kosciuszko-related landmark in the U.S.) are welcome but not required

The contest will be launched on October 8th and will last until October 31st. We will select the most creative entries posted within this span of time and results will be announced in November.

Q: Do we have to run/walk strictly on October 31st?

A: Nope! Run any time between (and including) October 8th and before (and including) October 31st and upload your time to the race website. If you run after October 31th, your time may not get uploaded to the website and you will not receive a commemorative medal. If you’re okay with that, we are too, but the medals are great!

Q: Will you give out awards to top finishers?

A: Not this year, since we can’t come together and compete simultaneously under identical conditions and course. But please know that we are very proud of your performance!

Q: Will you be handing out medals?

A: Yes! All finishers who publish results on the website will have a medal shipped to their home address via USPS – so please enter your address correctly!

Q: Will you be giving out race t-shirts?

A: Not this year, but if you are a Kosciuszko Freedom Run veteran we invite you to wear your Kosciuszko Freedom Run swag from previous years!

Q: Can I just register and take part in the run or do I also have to take part in the social media contest?

A: Yes, you can just register for the run and do not have to take part in the social media contest. But we strongly recommend participating in the contest, too, as the prizes are really unique and beautiful!

Q: I’m not really a runner but would like to take part in the social media contest. Can I still post my own photos?

A: No, the contest is only open to registered runners who upload their results to the race website. This year’s run isn’t only about run times, but also about challenging yourself! The run is open to all ages of runners in the U.S., so feel free to go for a run or walk!

Q: I heard that there’s a digital bib - how do I access that?

A. Yes, it's true! The bibs are personalized just for you & ready to download to make your race feel more "official." You should have received an e-mail with a link to your digital bib after you registered for the event. If you can't find that, you can download your bib from your profile as follows:

If you log into RunSignUp, you should be able to access it from your Profile under the Upcoming Events Tab through the View Digital Bib link -- see screenshots below:
