Description

KIRG is organizing the “Run the 21666” endurance challenge on the trails of Terrapin Nature Park on December 7, 2025.
21666 is the zip code for Terrapin Nature Park and also the time limit for the event. 21666 seconds is just over 6 hours. RUN THE 21666!

This year will be “KIRG only” and free to participate.  We only ask that runners provide some fluids and/or food to the aid station that we will all share. If the event goes well, we may add it as a permanent KIRG race and open it to the running community.

If you have friends that would like to participate, we encourage them to join KIRG.  Membership is less than most race registrations

Participants will run the 2.8-mile loop around Terrapin Nature Park. Only full laps will count. There will be a tally sheet at the start/finish where each participant's laps will be counted.

COURSE MAP

A fun 2.82 mile jaunt thru Terrapin Park, with an amazing 16 feet of elevation gain per loop.  It may sound easy, but it's no stroll on the beach....well some of it is.   BEWARE OF THE SAND TRAP

Race Day Information

GET READY TO RUN THE 21666
WHO: KIRG members who have registered on RunSignUp (for free)

WHAT: Run for 21666 seconds (6 hours, 1 minute, 6 seconds) on a 2.8 mile loop

WHERE: Terrapin Nature Park – 191 Log Canoe Cir, Stevensville, MD 21666

WHEN: Sunday, December 7, 2025 - 8:00:00am to 2:01:06pm

WHY: Good Question (it might be time to question your choices)

HOW:  Join your KIRG friends for a fun endurance event.  Starting at 8:00 am, KIRGers will run or walk on a marked 2.8-mile course at Terrapin Nature Park. You can run/walk as many laps as you wish within the 21666-second time limit.  A 6-hour continuous run, a single loop walk, or any combination of run/walk and rest.

We will use a simple pen & paper system to keep track of completed loops (only full loops count), AND each participant will have a stocking with their name on it.  After completing a lap, Santa will place a special treat in the stocking.  Everyone goes home with a stocking and treats. More loops = more treats.

Other than lap counting, this is a “Fat Ass” event.  (No fees, No awards, No aid, No wimps) You are responsible for your own fluids and nutrition.

We expect that everyone will share their food/fluids, but if there is a specific food/fluid that you want, bring it yourself

WHAT ELSE:  This is a “trail-ish” loop.  Some paved surfaces, but also some dirt, gravel, and don't forget about the 100 yards of sand.  There may be mud and a few puddles. We have eliminated all the steep rocky hills. The loop does not include the parking lot, but you will have easy access to your car after every loop.

The trails (bathroom & parking area) will be open to the public during the event.  Please share the trails with everyone, maybe invite them to join KIRG

BUT REALLY - WHY:  Running on a short loop for a long time is a great way to log some miles with friends, to measure your endurance, to practice pacing and fueling, and to test your gear for longer events.  You are never more than a mile from your car and have friends around the entire event

Questions: See you Sunday morning, and if you have any questions, you can email either Tom at twmi11er@aol.com or Skip at greendogpottery@comcast.net.
