Description

JOIN US FOR THE 17TH JESSICA MEREDITH JACOBSEN MEMORIAL 5K AND FUN WALK!

In memory of Jessica Meredith Jacobsen, the Knights of Columbus Council # 4011 (Father O’Neill Council) has organized the 17th Annual Jessica Meredith Jacobsen Memorial 5K Run and Fun Walk on September 21, 2024, at 8:00 AM. In addition to memorializing Jessica Meredith Jacobsen, who died tragically in 2007 as a result of intimate partner violence, the event also supports House of Ruth Maryland, the Immaculate Conception School Tuition Assistance Fund, and Fr. O’Neill Charities

The race and walk will begin at our host school, Immaculate Conception School, in Towson, MD, at 8:00 AM. The race and walk will follow a new course this year! Based on feedback from prior participants, we decided to flip the 5K course. You can see the new route using the map link below. We also extended the Fun Walk to give our walkers a little more time on the course.  We will also include a virtual race option for all participants who prefer the flexibility of participating when and where it is convenient for them.

T-shirt and bib pickup will be on September 19th and September 20th at the Knights of Columbus Hall on W. Seminary Ave between 3:00-7:00 PM.

Free parking for the event will be available in the garage on Ware Ave. on race day.

Online registration for the 5K and Fun Walk will close at 8:00 PM on 9/20/24. Limited race day registration on 9/21/24 will be available until 7:30 AM. After this time, we cannot guarantee your registration. If you would like to donate to the race, donations will be accepted after 9/21/23.

T-Shirt: A t-shirt with the Knight logo is guaranteed for those registered by September 7, 2024. Unfortunately, the t-shirt deadline has passed so new registrants should not expect to receive a t-shirt.

Awards: Cash prizes of $100, $50, and $25 for the top 3 female and male overall finishers. Age group medals will be awarded to the top male and female finishers.

Please support the sponsors of our race: T Rowe Price, Mariner Finance, JA Healthcare Services (a new sponsor this year!), Verdence Capital Advisors, Hollenshade's Auto Service, and Notre Dame Prep.

To learn how to become a sponsor of the race, please email Dan Yardley at jmj5kwalk@gmail.com. There are multiple levels, with various rewards for each level. Sponsorships are tax deductible when paid to Fr. O'Neill Charities directly. Registrations and donations are not tax-deductible.

Share your photos or videos on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/JMJ5K) of your memories of Jessica, photos of you completing your run or walk, or showing off your race t-shirt!

We'd love for you to submit your results so you can see how you compare with other participants! You can also share your photos after submitting your results.

House of Ruth Maryland

House of Ruth Maryland leads the fight to end violence against women and their children by confronting the attitudes, behaviors and systems that perpetuate it, and by providing victims with the services necessary to rebuild their lives safely and free of fear.

House of Ruth Maryland was founded in May of 1977 by a coalition of women’s organizations, religious groups, service providers, and elected officials to provide a safe haven for victims of domestic violence and their children. In November of 1977 we opened Baltimore’s first crisis shelter for these victims in a row house on North Calvert Street. The shelter was staffed by one paid staffed person and a voluntary Board of Directors.

Immaculate Conception School Tuition Assistance Fund

Immaculate Conception School (ICS) is a Catholic Parish school of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. ICS is a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and educates over 600 children in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. ICS is known for its dedication to Catholic identity and Christian service, its wide variety of extracurricular clubs and activities and its outstanding record of placing well-prepared graduates into their high school of choice. ICS is a proud to host the Jessica Meredith Jacobsen Memorial 5K and Fun Walk each year and many members of the ICS community, students, parents, faculty and staff, enthusiastically participate as runners, walkers and volunteers annually.

Fr. O'Neill Charities

Father O'Neill Charities is organized exclusively for charitable, religious, and educational purposes including for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501 (c)(3) of the internal Revenue  Code.

100% of the Father O'Neill Charities is reinvested back into the church and communities in the Greater Baltimore Area.  Annually we support the Pregnancy Center North, House of Ruth, Immaculate Conception Schools, Sister's Academy of Baltimore, Franciscan Center, and numerous other charities and 501(c)(3) Organizations.  In addition, we operate a Bicycle Program that accepts donated bicycles, repairs them and then gives them to the needy.
