Description

Atlantic Coastal Virtual Challenge

This virtual event is designed to inspire you to “keep moving” and build or maintain fitness as we head into the winter season. This challenge is a fun way to stay motivated to train and you can invite your friends and family to join you! The event will take place over 13 weeks, from September 14 to December 14, to give you the flexibility to complete all the challenge miles. Finish in 13 weeks or less. If you missed the starting weeks it will not be too late to enter after the challenge starts…you will just have a shorter time to complete the challenge. Swag will be mailed to you later in the challenge, at no additional charge. You can log workouts that you are using for other virtual events.

How do I choose my Event?

Follow these steps to get started

1- Choose your Discipline– there are 4 disciplines, Walking, Running, Biking and Multi-sport (bike and run). Read more below under the Discipline section.

2- Choose your Course– within each discipline we offer a variety of course options. Read more below under the Courses section.

3- Register for your Event– once you have chosen your discipline and course you are ready to hit the Register Now button.

4- Join a Team– during the registration process you will be asked if you want to create or join a team. This is a great way to stay motivated and have fun with friends and family.

Disciplines

Review the disciplines below to chose the one you want to focus on over the next 13 weeks and review the Courses section below to chose your course and distance.

WALK- this discipline is for those who strickly walk. You can use a treadmill or outside. You can choose from 4 course options (OC to Chincoteague or AC to OC or New England or Mid Atlantic courses). 

RUN- this discipline is for those who like to run (and maybe an occasional walk too). You can use a treadmill or outside. You can choose from 5 course options (OC to Chincoteague or AC to OC or New England or Mid Atlantic or Southern courses).

BIKE- this discipline is for those who want to ride their bike. You can use a trainer, stationary bike or ride outside. You can choose from 6 course options (New England or Mid Atlantic or Southern or Total Coastal or Everest Climb or Double Everest Climb).   

MULTI-SPORT- this discipline is for the multi-sport athlete who wants to bike and run. You can use a trainer, stationary bike, ride outside, treadmill or run outside. You can choose from 4 course options. (New England or Mid Atlantic or Southern or Total Coastal).

Courses

Here are the courses we have creatively designed for you. There is something here for everyone. You will have an avatar that will move along the route as you log your miles. You can upload gpx files from a tracking device/app or manually key in your workouts. Read the details to understand the rules for each course.

OC to Chincoteague Course- this course is measured by miles and time. Total of 52.1 miles and goes from Ocean City, MD to Chincoteaue Island, VA. This course can be chosen for the WALK or RUN disciplines only (4 mile average per week or do all 52.1 in one day). 

AC to OC Course- this course is measured by miles and time. Total of 100 miles and goes from Atlantic City, NJ to Ocean City, MD. This course can be chosen for the WALK or RUN disciplines only (8 mile average per week).

New England Course- this course is measured by miles and time. Total of 259 miles and navigates from Portland, ME to New Haven, CT. This course can be chosen for all the disciplines. (20 mile average per week). For the multi-sport discipline the distance will be 209 bike miles and 50 run miles (16 bike miles and 4 run miles average per week).

Mid Atlantic Course- this course is measured by miles and time. Total of 323 miles and navigates from Staten Island, NY to Virginia Beach, VA. This course can be chosen for all the disciplines. (25 mile average per week). For the multi-sport discipline the distance will be 258 bike miles and 65 run miles (20 bike miles and 5 run miles average per week).

Southern Course- this course is measured by miles and time. Total of 616 miles and navigates from Nags Head, NC to Jacksonville, FL. This course can be chosen for all the disciplines. (47 mile average per week). For the multi-sport discipline the distance will be 491 bike miles and 125 run miles (38 bike miles and 9 run miles average per week).

Total Coastal Course- this course is measured by miles and time. Total of 1,408 miles from Portland, ME to Jacksonville, FL. This course can be chosen for the BIKE and MULTISPORT disciplines only (108 miles average per week). For the multi-sport discipline the distance will be 1,128 bike miles and 280 run miles (87 bike miles and 21 run miles average per week).

Everest Climb Course- this course is measured by elevation gain and time. Total elevation is 29,029. There is no preset course and no avatar. This course is for BIKE discipline only (2,233 feet of climbing average per week). This course requires the use of gpx files and no bike trainer or stationary bike is allowed. 

Double Everest Climb Course- this course is measured by elevation gain and time. Total elevation is 58,058. There is no preset course and no avatar. This course is for BIKE discipline only (4,466 feet of climbing average per week). This course requires the use of gpx files and no bike trainer or stationary bike is allowed. 

Multi-sport participants can log biking and running miles in any order. However, they must only record bike mile for the bike portion and run miles for the run portion.

Join a Team!

We have two Team contests to create some FUN! Invite friends and family members to join you on this challenge by creating a team to support each other! Come up with a team name and be sure that everyone enters it during registration. We will have the following results for the Team competition…

Largest Team– having the most team members registered
Most States Team– having the most states represented on your team  

If you already registered without a team but decided to make a team or join one, no problem. Use your registration confirmation email from Run Sign Up to open up your registration and make team edits. If you have any questions contact Shannon@RacineMultiSports.com.

Fee- includes race shirt and finisher medal mailed directly to you.

Results

You will be required to submit your results daily beginning September 14.  Click on the “Logging Results Instructions” button below for details. Results Leaderboard will update daily automatically for each discipline/course. Ranking will be first based on two factors. All courses will be based first on miles completed and then adjust by overall time. So, participants with the same distance completed will be ranked on overall time. For the Everest Climb course you will first be ranked by feet climbed and then adjust to overall time. 

Virtual Process

Here are the easy steps to follow to get the most out of your virtual experience.

1. Register Online– for one of the three categories: Run or Walk, Bike, or Run/Bike
2. Join Facebook Group– to share pre-race photos and workouts and then photos of your race day experience.
3. Recruit Friends– we want to see how many areas of the country we can get people involved, but we need your help!
4. Pre-Challenge Communication– we will send you information as we get closer to the start of the Challenge to help you get ready and to learn how to submit your results daily.
5. Start Working Out– beginning September 14 you can start logging your workouts. 
6. Submit Results Daily– your results can be uploaded daily with your miles and time.
7. Submit Photos– from your runs or rides and share on the Facebook group page.
8. Check Results– as results get submitted by participants it will update daily so you can watch the leaderboard.
9. Swag Delivery– we will submit the order for shirts and medals later in the challenge. You will get your swag mailed to your front door.

Rules

- Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable
- Registrants must follow all COVID-19 and quarantine restrictions
- Racine MultiSports is not responsible for any restrictions or laws violated by participants in this event
- No returns or exchanges on shirts and medals
