Due to the novel coronavirus, the 2020 event will be a virtual event. Racers can run any time between September 18th and September 27th. You can run/walk in the woods, hit the beach, or race from the comfort of your home on your treadmill - your virtual race, your choice. Results may be submitted online.
We are happy to announce that everyone will get a t-shirt this year. If you register by August 21st, your tee will be mailed by September 14th. Every registration requires a home address and a t-shirt size. We will either hand deliver t-shirts to local participants or ship to those runners who live out of the area. Registrants after August 21st will receive t-shirts shortly after the event is complete.
We appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the health and safety of our community members while trying to keep this important Safe Passage tradition alive - thank you!
We are collecting YOUR Safe Passage experiences! We welcome any and all thoughts, stories, experiences, photos, and videos related to Safe Passage. These will become part of a larger story that will be collected at our 20th Anniversary celebration this fall alongside the race.

Prizes will be awarded for top fundraisers through a raffle system. For every $50 a participant raises, they will receive a raffle ticket towards one of three prizes as follows:
$100 gift certificate from Gather in Yarmouth, Maine. “A farm fresh eatery” with “inventive American eats and wood-fired pizza.” Inside and outside dining available as well as take-out.
$200 gift certificate for Fleet Feet in Portland or Brunswick, Maine. “Locally owned and committed to helping you find the right solution for your running and walking needs!”
$300 Visa Gift Card. Whether this is your first Safe Passage 5k or it’s the 16th time you’ve run or walked, you can use Visa “wherever it’s accepted!”
All donations are always gratefully accepted, but to be considered for the lottery prizes, checks need to be in to the New Gloucester office by Monday, September 21st, and online donations to RunSignUp need to be in by Friday, September 25th. Winners will be announced through Safe Passage Facebook Live on Sunday, Sept 27th at 11am EST.
Because this is a virtual race there will be no prizes for best time.

Safe Passage, founded in 1999 by Yarmouth native Hanley Denning, provides comprehensive education, health and enrichment programs to nearly 500 students from 300 families living in the community around the Guatemala City garbage dump—one of the largest open landfills in Central America.
