Husky Ruck Memorial 10K

Sat August 8, 2020 New Gloucester, ME 04260 US Directions RaceJoy Ready

IMPORTANT EVENT CHANGE

We at CompetitorME take the health and well being of our participants, volunteers, spectators, and staff very seriously.  With the current concerns surrounding COVID-19, we are working with local officials and medical professionals to best understand the impact of our events.

Maine's Governor Mills has extended the State's guidelines to the event date, and mandates no groups that consist of 50 people or more.

While it is with regret that we are not able to safely hold the event originally scheduled for Saturday, August 8, 2020 in person, we are making this event a Virtual Race!

In an athlete-first policy, we are offering to all registered participants, at no additional cost, the ability to transfer to the Virtual Participant Option.  We will make this transfer for you.  Additionally, you will still receive the same event goodies in the mail during the week prior to the event.

With the Husky Ruck Memorial 10K Virtual Race, we are debuting something very new- RunSignUp's RaceJoy technology!  Simply download the RaceJoy app to your mobile phone, follow the set up instructions (VERY EASY), then run your own 10K route wherever you are!  We will be along for your workout, giving you inspiration along the way, as well as, the app gives you all the pertinent information (pace, distance, expected finishing time).  Have fans that want to encourage you along the way- they can send you cheers, as well!  Once you're done, one quick click submits your results!  Simply download the RaceJoy app by clicking HERE!

Finally, on behalf of CompetitorME, we appreciate the support of our running and endurance event communities.  These are undoubtedly trying times for us all.  We look forward to seeing you all as soon as we can!

USMC Corporal Mark Goyet

Description

On Saturday, August 8th, 2020, members of the Southern Maine community will be invited to participate and/or compete in a 10k military ruck through the trails of Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, ME to honor Cpl Mark Goyet of Westbrook, ME who died on June 28, 2011 after his unit came under attack by small arms fire in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. During this event, participants will strap weighted packs to their backs and ruck 10 (plus) kilometers over wide backcountry trails before confronting a rigorous O-Course which will challenge both mind and body.

So what is a "RUCK"?

The definition can be as simple as walking around with a backpack on a hike or as difficult as moving fast with all your military gear, loaded for bear, over rugged terrain, infiltrating to your objective. The purpose of this event is to experience and overcome the challenges which lay before us -- much like our military service members do every day. We encourage (though do not require) race competitors to fill their packs - or rucks - with weight and endure this weight throughout the duration of this course. Do not take more than you can handle. Do not be afraid to help others as needed along the way. On this day, we will demonstrate the same Honor, Courage, and Commitment that Corporal Goyet had exemplified for us as a U.S. Marine. We do this in his honor. We do this to carry on his legacy.
