Description
The Breakaway 5K and Marilyn & Nat Golzbein Memorial Fun Run are the principal fundraisers supporting scholarships for Old Orchard Beach High School graduates. The scholarships are awarded by the MAPS Scholarship Foundation, a group of retired educators and former students from OOB who aspire to support the continuing education of OOB High School graduates. 100% of the proceeds directly benefit the MAPS Foundation.
In 2026, MAPS Scholarship Foundation granted seventeen $1000 scholarships to Old Orchard Beach High School graduates.
As part of our 30th celebration this year, we are adding 2 new scholarships to be awarded following the race finish at our awards ceremony. All 15-19 year old finishers, male and female, will be entered into a drawing for two $1000 scholarships to be presented immediately after the race. To be eligible for the scholarship, runners must retrieve their race finish printout from the timer and enter it into the drawing for a chance to win. You must be in attendance to win. Previous OOB High School scholarship winners are eligible. You do not have to be an OOB graduate to win. This is a great opportunity for all high school runners so spread the word!
The race start location is at the corner of Walnut St. & Milliken St. in front of the public parking lot. The course follows Milliken St. and West Grand Avenues to Ocean Park and back to the finish at The Brunswick. The course is mostly flat and fast. PR's Very Possible!! Join us at The Brunswick on the beach for a post-race continental breakfast and awards ceremony!
Race T-Shirt for first 300 runners registered.
*Registration closes on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. No race day registrations.
Pre-race packet pick up is Friday, August 14, 2026, 4:00-6:00 pm, at the Milliken Mills parking lot, near the race start. Race day packet pick up begins at 6:00 am at the Milliken Mills parking lot. Free race day parking in the public lot on Milliken Street until 10:00 am.
