It is with deep regret, but with an abundance of caution, the MBAA Committee has made the heart-wrenching DECISION TO CANCEL the 12th annual KAT-Walk & Karo 5K for Brain Aneurysm Awareness for 2020.
While the walk/run is outdoors, the 400 plus participants would be in close proximity where social distancing would be difficult. In good conscience, the committee feels we cannot go forward with an event that draws people from across our state and beyond, placing them shoulder-to-shoulder for hours when medical advice strenuously advises against such gatherings.
Because of the restrictions we’d have to impose like social distancing and face masks, the walk/run wouldn’t feel the same and flies against the event’s greatest purpose – to provide a day where loved ones can be together, greet and embrace each other, and remember their lost love one, or celebrate survival.
Your Maine Brain Aneurysm Awareness Committee will continue with its mission of supporting the brain aneurysm community, raise public awareness, support education, and help fund research. We will be awarding our Scholarships and Research Grant in September and will work toward a fun Dance for Awareness in March and a bigger, more meaningful, KAT-Walk & Karo-5K in 2021. In the meantime, stay healthy and safe.

Lace up your walking and running shoes and join us for the 12th annual KAT-Walk & 9th Annual Karo-5K for Brain Aneurysm Awareness. The route will be along the beautiful oceanside Back Cove Boulevard in Portland, Maine. This will be a special day to remember and honor loved ones lost to or having survived a brain aneurysm.
11:30 to 12:45 - Registration and activities including family gatherings, brain aneurysm awareness information, a 50/50 raffle, and face painting. Bring a picnic and enjoy the cove. This is a great opportunity to meet and support other families affected by brain aneurysms.
1:00 - Karo-5K race kick-off followed by the KAT-Walk.
2:15 - Runners awards and closing ceremonies.
September is Brain Aneurysm Awareness month, so join us for the day as we "share our tears, remember with love, and walk & run to honor" those families affected by this silent killer and help save lives!
