Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. The life expectancy of a person with ALS is 2 to 5 years. As the disease progresses, it takes away a person's ability to walk, dress, write, speak, swallow and breathe. The disease is always fatal. Approximately 6000 people are diagnoses with ALS in the United States each year, that's 15 new cases a day!

Don't forget to join us on Friday, August 10 at 6:30 PM in C.O. Brown Stadium as we Pack the Park to Strike Out ALS during the NABF Major Division World Series. All gate admissions for that day will also be donated to the ALS Association-Michigan Chapter.
