Description
The Detroit Parks & Recreation Department Annual Detroit Senior Olympics (DSO) has been the go to event for over three decades in the City of Detroit. Athletes at least 50 years of age come from all over to compete and possibly take home that Gold, Silver and/or Bronze medal. This signature is held the second week of June each year at various locations with in the Metropolitan Area.

The Olympics offer 21 events that are diverse from Arts & Crafts to Race Walking and individual play to team play. It even has room for those that are not so athletic or are on injury reserve to come out and catch the fever.
To keep the Detroit Senior Olympics thriving for years to come for our young at heart we have addressed the call to become the official local games, allowing our athletes to grow and possibility qualify for the State and/or National Senior Olympics games as the representive of the City of Detroit Parks & Recreation Department.
In 2017, we partnered with the Michigan Senior Olympics and look forward to sending a representative to the games in 2018.
Detroit Senior Olympics location schedule is as follow (subject to change without prior notice):
Monday, June 11 ~ Chandler Park Golf Course (12801 Chandler Park Drive | Detroit, MI 48213) and Lasky Recreation Center 13200 Fenelon – (vending excluded)
Tuesday, June 12 ~ Hazel Park Bowling(24211 Hughes | Hazel Parks, MI), Farwell Recreation Center (2711 E. Outer Dr. | Detroit, MI) and Williams Recreation Center (8431 Rosa Parks Blvd | Detroit, MI 48206)
Wednesday, June 13 ~ Adams/Butzel Complex (10500 Lyndon | Detroit, MI 48227)
In addition to the athletic portion of the Detroit Senior Olympics, the Detroit Parks & Recreation is committed to our seniors’ overall well-being and offer vendor resource information in the areas of health, insurance, screenings, nutrition, finance, housing and other senior services along side our diverse programming, networking and congregate meals.
All athletes and spectators must register in person or by mail at the Detroit Parks & Recreation Department | 18100 Meyers Rd. – Upper level | Detroit, MI on or before Friday, May 25, 2018 between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m or online. Otherwise, athletes and spectators may register On-Site, June 11 (Monday Events) and June 12 – 13, 2018 (Tuesday and Wednesday Events).
Registration Levels: Spectator include event refreshment; Athlete and VIP Spectator include event refreshment, bag, t-shirt and other promotional items.
ELIGIBILITY
Men and women at least 50 years old by December 31.
All athletes must check in 10 minutes prior to the start of the event or forfeit.
Event times are subject to change (without notice). The Detroit Senior Olympics reserves the right to cancel or postpone individual events due to inclement weather.
No changes to rosters/registration will be accepted after May 25, 2018.
RULES
Official Rules for the 2018 Detroit Senior Olympics are governed by the Detroit Senior Olympics Organizing Committee;
- Athletes may enter in no more than six (6) events;
- All Athletes registered by May 11, 2018 will receive a Detroit Senior Olympics T-Shirt;
- Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, unless a rule violations has occurred;
- Athletes shall dress according to events entered i.e. comfortable shoes, loose fitting clothes;
- Detroit Senior Olympics shall not be responsible for lost or stolen personal items;
- Hustle Dance competition is open to all dancers/groups. All Hustle Dance competition performance can only be performed to music provide to the Detroit Senior Olympics’ Organizers and must be free of vulgarity and explicated language. Dance group can consist of no less than 5 and no more than 10 + 2 alternates for replacement purpose only. Team Rooster must be submitted by 12 noon on opening day and entire team must check in at one time one (1) hour before competition.
- All athletes and spectators of the Detroit Senior Olympics must complete and sign the Official Registration Form.
- No DSO Registration Packets will be mailed or held after July 10, 2018.
MICHIGAN SENIOR OLYMPICS QUALIFICATION
The Detroit Parks & Recreation Department will sponsor an athlete(s) of the Detroit Senior Olympics to the Michigan Senior Olympics as a representative of the department and City of Detroit who meet the qualifications of the National Senior Game Association in the events indicated by an asterisk (*). Additionally, to act as the representative from the DSO, you the athlete must reside in Detroit or one of its bordering city.

NO PERSONAL CHECKS ACCEPTED ~ NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED
Medals will be presented at an Awards Banquet ~ Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 4 pm – 9 pm at Northwest Activities Center | Ballroom. The event is free for all Medal Winners. Non-Medal Winners, spectators, family, friends, guess and public ticket cost is $12.00 per person.
