Description
Open to Detroit Waldorf School Students, Families, and Friends, the second Temagami Trot 5K and One Mile Fun Run/Walk will be an opportunity for the DWS community to support the current 7th Grade Class in their fundraising efforts and and to get healthy for Spring 2023! This will be a low key event with a timed competitive option, it is primarily a fundraiser for the Seventh Grade and not a full-service race.
In 2006, Dr. Linda Williams brought her first class of Detroit Waldorf School students into the wilds of northern Canada for the first Temagami DWS class trip at Northwaters Camp, which has become an annual tradition at DWS providing a unique rite of passage wilderness experience and exceptional bonding for the rising eighth grade as they prepare for their final year together. With transportation costs, guide and expedition fees, and other expenses, the cost per student is more than $1000. We hope you will consider supporting Mr. Trombly's seventh grade class by coming out for this fun event!
Price discounts will be reflected when you sign up (until May 5, age 1-10 are $15, age 11-17 $20, age 18 and up $25, after May 5 prices go up $5, ($20/$25 respectively) and race-day signups will be an additional $10 $30/$35), so take advantage of early-bird pricing!). There is also a family option, up to 6 runners for $75 ($85)
This will be a low-key 5K race that will take place in the Dequindre Cut on May 13, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. The Dequindre Cut is a safe and beautiful running path that follows the old Grand Trunk railroad line from Mack Ave to Franklin Street without crossing any roads. This will be a down and back timed course, with awards for Waldorf students based on their classes as well as age group awards for the adults. There will be unique prizes (and even some trophies!) for category winners. ALL participant costs, other than the credit card processing fees, will go to the Waldorf Class of 2024 Temagami fundraising efforts. We hope to see you Sunday, May 13 for a fun day together, in a beautiful outdoor setting.
If you want to run the race virtually, or simply donate to support the Temagami Fundraising, please see the other options on this page.
Bib pickup will begin at 8:00 a.m. near the Woodbridge St. entrance to the Dequindre Cut. Be sure to arrive early enough to pick up your bib before the race starts!
The race will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. near the Woodbridge Street entrance to the Dequindre Cut. The competitive 5K race will start and finish near the corner of Woodbridge and St. Aubin. The fun run/walk will start after the race, socially distanced. We will have a table set up to process last minute registrations until 9:30 AM. Parking is available along Atwater street and the Detroit Riverfront. We will be providing water and post-race refreshments. There are public restrooms available at Rivard Plaza on the riverfront, at the William Milliken State Park and Harbor at the foot of the Dequindre Cut on Atwater street, and there may be a public port-a-potty along the route. We want to ensure that all funds collected go to DWS, so we will not be providing extra restrooms for this race. The Dequindre Cut is a public space and it will be used by other members of the public during the race. Please be courteous to other users!
