Description

The Grand Rapids Road Mile - Presented by Society Track Club is a new event to Grand Rapids this year. We hope to only grow as the years go by & we invite you to join us in person to create this new tradition. 

The 2024 Grand Rapids Road Mile will start at the corner of Wealthy and Front in downtown Grand Rapids Michigan. (use 700 Wealthy St SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504 in your GPS for our physical location) You can view the tentative routes (we are still working with the City of Grand Rapids to finalize the details) by clicking the distance.

Our race with begin with the mini mile at 8:00am followed by the mile race for the public & ending with the elite mile for those who qualify.

About the Grand Rapids Road Mile:
All Mile Run Event & Elite Mile Run Event participants receive a commemorative shirt. For Mini Mile Participants - they will receive a FInisher's Certificate

Money prizes (check) for the top 3 finishers for each division (Elite / General Public) , overall masters winner and overall non binary winner.

This is a great opportunity for school teams, families, and individuals to get involved and help our participants have an AMAZING race day experience.

Age Groups start at 9 and under, then go every 5 years (ie: 10-14, 15-19....70-74, 75-79), until 80+.

Overall Master's: $100
Overall Non Binary: $100  

Overall prize winners will not be eligible to win age group awards.

Parking

Where: 

The Grand Rapids Road Mile takes place at the corner of Wealthy and Front in downtown Grand Rapids Michigan. Use 700 Wealthy St SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504 in your GPS for our physical location.

Bike/Bus

If at all possible, please take a bus of ride your bikes to the start and finish line. We have free, safe and secure bicycle parking near the finish line at the park bike racks. 

Parking: 

Limited street parking will be available for free throughout grand rapids neighborhoods near both the start and finish line. There are also different city lots just across the river. The closest lot is Area 6A Lot.  You can find an interactive map and more information HERE

Handicapped Access and Parking: 

Limited designated/reserved handicapped parking are offered by the city for all of their ramps and lots. These spaces are clearly marked. In most ramps, you can find accessible parking spaces on the first level or near elevators/stairways.

More Event Info!

Morning of BIB / RFID Chip Pickup:


We are aiming to be more environmentally friendly and therefore we are utilizing a timing service that has reusable RFID chips. This means you will have to pick up those chips DAY OF.   Please arrive at the race between 7:00am-7:20 am to pick up your chips/ bib. We will not be able to give you a bib / chip if you arrive too close to race start (I.E after 8am) If you do not want to pick up your shirt at the start line with your race bib / chip , we will have them available once you've completed the race as well. 

Elite Mile Participants: 

Your RFID chips / bibs and shirts will be available in your New Balance Elite Tent near the finish line.  


Event Schedule:


7:00am: Packet & BIB Pickup at the Start Line begin

We have reusable RFID chips for this race (environmentally friendly) and they will need to be picked up day off the race. 

7:50: Runners to the start line for the Mini Mile

8:00am Mini Mile Begins

8:10am: Runners to the start line for the General Mile

8:20am Mile Begins

8:30am: Elite Runners to the start line for the Elite Mile

8:45am: Elite Mile Begins

~ until 9:30am Post race party!

FAQs


Is there a cut off for the events? Yes, there is a 20 minute time limit for both the kids mile and the general mile. 

Are there medals? No, there are no medals for this race. However all participants of the Elite mile and General mile will get a shirt. The mini mile will receive a certificate.

Are strollers and pets allowed? Strollers are allowed but Pets are not allowed on the course.


Mini Mile Info


Yes! We have chips / bibs for the mini mile. At the finish we do not have medals (for any event) but the Mini Mile participants will get a certificate of completion signed by the Society Track Club Race Director and New Balance. There will be a spot for their time & their name. 

It is the full mile distance. They have 20 minutes to complete the race. If it takes longer , we will ask them to move to the right side of the road and they may not receive a chip time.
