Come celebrate an early St. Paddy’s Day at the Holland Civic Center Place with the 5th annual running of the St. Paddy’s Leprechaun Chase on, Saturday, March 14, 2020. This race consists of a 5k and Pre Race Wee Chase and is just one part of the city’s event for the day. Participants are encouraged to dress for the occasion in green or a favorite Irish costume.
Activities start at 8:30 AM with the Wee Chase for the kids 8 and under. The Wee Chase route, which starts at the 5k Start/Finish line, takes the young runners around the newly renovated Civic Center. The registration fee is free for the Wee Chase, but parents of the little lads and lasses must sign them up through Runsignup (online) or at the Civic Center on race day. The 5k race starts at 9:00 AM with a new route that goes through beautiful downtown Holland and out to Windmill Island. This will again be a timed race with awards given out for top male/female finisher along with the top 3 male/female from each age group.
Race registration is $25 prior to race day, then it jumps up to $30 on race day. To guarantee that you will get a St. Paddy’s Leprechaun Chase long sleeve tech-blend shirt or running hat register before March 9.
Pre-race day packet pickup will be at Scrapyard Climbing Collective (located at 76 S. River Ave.) from 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, March 13. Race-day registration and packet pickup begins at 7:30 AM and runs to 8:30 AM inside the atrium of the Civic Center. Coffee, hot chocolate, and donuts will be available during and after the race.
Something new this year as part of the city’s event, is an Irish breakfast at the Civic Center, which starts at 9:00 AM. Participants will have the option to purchase a discounted breakfast coupon at the time of race registration. And if breakfast isn’t enough, Irish beer will be available to purchase for those 21 and older.
This is a fundraising event of the Holland Running Club with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Lakeshore Chapter of myTEAM TRIUMPH, an organization that is dedicated to providing the experience of road racing to individuals with disabilities.
