IRISH I Was Faster Virtual Run/Walk

Place

1001 Norlin Dr
Imlay City, MI US 48444

Description

Imagine how great you feel when you have completed a work out.  That good tired feeling.  What images of yourself come to mind when you perform an act of kindness for others?  Do you feel warm, heroic, accomplished?  All of the above and more? The IRISH I Was Faster will help you get that good tired feeling and generate a sense of selflessness.  As runners and walkers, we know that sports keeps us healthy and teaches us many life lessons.  YOU can support young people to stay healthy and learn important life lessons through sports.

The "IRISH" I Was Faster is a 4K Run/Walk that supports the Imlay City Athletic Boosters.  The Athletic Boosters works to support the athletes of the Imlay City Schools.  Funds from this race will be used to provide for team needs such as gear, uniforms, equipment, and the HUDL system so that they have the tools needed to be successful to excel in the sport they are participating in.  HUDL provides video review and performance analysis tools for sports teams and athletes at every level.

This race will take you around the Imlay City Schools from the high school where the athletes spend their school day as well as the Middle School, Weston St. Elementary and Borland Elementary.  The route will also take you through the baseball grounds, track and football field.  As a participant you will have the opportunity to see the grounds and buildings that you are providing support for.

Most people struggle with the amount of races to choose from, at the IRISH our fun and welcoming volunteers ensure your anxiety on race day is only those pre-race jitters.  At the IRISH you will feel like your are competing in your own hometown.

Finisher Medal

Finisher Awards are revealed!  We have a new medal for 2024!  Sign up today to be able to hang one of these on your medal rack!  Both 4K and 1K participants will receive acknowledgement that you got off the couch on a Saturday morning (possibly in the cold and wind like 2023!).

Race Shirt

As a part of your 4K entry fee you will also receive this tech fabric shirt to wear with pride either during the race or after (so you have a clean shirt waiting for you!).  1K participants will get a cotton shirt for registering.  YOU MUST SIGN UP BY MARCH 8, 2024 TO RECEIVE THE SHIRT.  WE WILL NOT BE PURCHASING EXTRA SHIRTS.  ENTRIES AFTER MARCH 8 WILL BE GIVEN A $10 TAX DEDUCTION.

Race Map

This 4K (2.5 Mile) course begins and ends in front of the Imlay City High School and is intended to allow you to view the schools and some of the athletic areas you are generously supporting.  Thank you for choosing to support the student athletes of Imlay City Schools.  You will run north along the back side of Weston Elementary and the Middle School.  The course then takes you along a gravel road that lets you view the baseball fields.  When nearing 2nd St., you will be able to view the football field and track.  The course then begins to wind through some of the quiet subdivisions of Imlay City.  After Mile 1 you will pass on the front side of the Middle School and Weston Elementary.  Your journey then takes you through additional subdivisions before running past Borland Road Elementary.  From there you are back on school grounds and finishing up that last ½ mile with a loop through the Imlay City High School parking lot and into the final fast straight away to the FINISH!  Public roads will not be closed during the race, but the race committee has made a route that takes you down lightly traveled roads and intersections will have staff to help stop traffic for the racers.

The 1K fun run will be on a closed off road that runs on the back side of the school so that all children will be protected.  The 1K is an out and back that starts/finishes at the Imlay City High School and runs behind Weston Street Elementary and the Middle School.  Fun run participants will turn around at the north end of the bus parking area and head back to the high school for their finish!

Age Groups - Medal Placing

As a racer you are always out there giving your all and that is why we want to reward you with a prize if you place in the top 3 of your age group.

There will be an overall male and female finisher award for the 4K Run.  ***NEW FOR 2024!!!!*** Overall walker award!  Reminder walkers CAN NOT RUN.

These winners will not receive age group placings.

Race Parking

We know that sometimes race day can be stressful because of the excitement it brings.  That is why we would like to help you know where to park so that you have one less item to worry about.  Below is a map to guide you once you arrive at the "IRISH" I Was Faster 4K.  Blue indicates race staff/volunteer parking ONLY.  This parking will be close to the timing mats so we want to minimize traffic in the area so that no critical component of the race is damaged.

GREEN:  Please feel free to park in the high school general parking lots.  There is a north and south lot and plenty of room so you won't have far to walk to check in.

YELLOW:  If the high school lot is filled up we invite you to drive over to the Borland Road Elementary parking lots.  Again, there are two lots to choose from and this area is still very near the start/finish area.  You will walk approximately 1/4 mile to the start/finish/check in area.

PINK:  These lots are over by the Middle School and Weston Elementary.  Please feel free to utilize these areas once the High School and Borland lots are full.  The walk to the front of the high school for check in will be closer to a 1/2 mile or less from these areas.

NOTE THAT THE ACCESS ROAD FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL/WESTON WILL BE CLOSED ON RACE DAY TO PREVENT THE TIMING MATS FROM BEING DRIVEN OVER AS WELL AS TO KEEP THE CHILDREN IN THE 1K FUN RUN SAFE.
