K College Get Outside Challenge

The Outdoor Programs office at K College presents the 2020 Get Outside Challenge!

Can you (virtually) complete the trek along the North Country Trail from K's campus to the Straits of Mackinac? Gather a team of up to 5 people and run, bike, swim, paddle, walk, skip, or roll the 1000 miles from K to the Mackinac Bridge. As you and your team log miles being active outside, you'll earn badges and hit landmarks along the way.

North Country Trail (NCT) Landmarks:

1. Mile 0 - K Campus
2. Mile 14 - NCT Trailhead at Fort Custer Recreation Area
3. Mile 100 - W.K Kellogg Biological Station
4. Mile 200 - Praireville Township's Crooked Lake and Lux Arbor Reserve
5. Mile 300 - Yankee Springs State Recreation Area
6. Mile 400 - Chief Noonday Road
7. Mile 500 - Halfway @ the Thornapple River!
8. Mile 700 - Entering Manistee National Forest
9. Mile 800 - Manistee River Trail
10. Mile 1000 - Arrive @ the Straits of Mackinac

How It Works

Put together a team made up of K students, faculty, staff, or alumni and register for the challenge. Walk, run, bike, ski, swim, paddle, crawl to get outside and get active while keeping track of your miles from October 10th - November 1st. Log your miles online as you go. As your team logs miles, you'll virtually travel along the North Country Trail, earning badges along the way by hitting landmarks at certain mile markers. You can also earn mileage boosts by competing in weekly bonus challenges (to be announced). Whether your team travels the whole length of the NCT section or just a few miles, you and your teammates will have the chance to win prizes along the way! Remember, you're logging your hours virtually so your team can be living across the world from one another and you can complete hours doing all types of activities outdoors. Recruit your team, register for the challenge, and start logging those miles!
