About This Event
The 2021 Kalamazoo Klassic 10k Run and 5k Run/Walk, presented in partnership by MRC Industries, Inc. and the Kalamazoo Area Runners (KAR), is scheduled for Saturday, June 19th. We are excited about our plans to return to an in-person event to celebrate our 43rd year and the 5k Run has been selected as the RRCA State Championship Race.
The health and safety of our participants, volunteers and the community remain our top priority in hosting this long running community event and should circumstances related to COVID-19 prevent moving forward with the in-person event, we would transition the entire event to a virtual platform. We will also be offering a virtual option in conjunction with the in-person events.
This year’s Kalamazoo Klassic will feature the same iconic course, however will look very different in regards to the COVID-19 safe-guards put in place. This year’s race will include socially distanced, staggered starts for the 10k Run and 5k Run/Walk, modified start and finish line activities and a pause for the Kids’ Klassic for 2021. Masks are required in the start and finish line areas (they may be removed while running/walking) and during Saturday packet pick-up at the Maple Street Magnet School. Masks will be worn by all volunteers. Portable restrooms and hand washing stations will be placed with plenty of space in front of the Maple Street Magnet School and on the finish line field (there will not be any portable restrooms in the starting line area). The event will offer curbside packet pick-up Friday evening, and in-person, socially distanced packet pick-up on Saturday morning. There will not be any onsite late registration.
We realize each participant’s situation is unique, and not all runners and walkers will be ready to participate in an in-person event. As a result, a virtual option will be offered for the 10k Run and 5k Run/Walk. Due to the logistics required by the staggered start and course design, the in-person 10k run will be capped at 210 runners and the in-person 5k run & walk will be capped at 600 participants.
For the virtual option, runners and walkers run the 5k and/or 10k course of their choice and input results directly into the system upon completion of the distance (s) All times must be entered by 11:59 pm on Saturday, July 3rd to be included in the official results. The virtual race is not eligible for age group awards.
The cost to participate with a high quality custom finisher medal (s) and soft weave polyester/rayon/cotton blend shirt is as follows:
In Person Events on June 19th:
$30 for the first in-person event (5k Run or 5k Walk or 10k Run)
An additional $10 for the second in-person event (5k Run or 5k Walk and 10k Run combination). Runners/walkers who participate in both the 5k Run or 5k Walk and the 10k run will receive two medals – one for each event. A 5k Run and 5k Walk combination is not available for the live event.
Virtual Events June 19th – July 3rd:
$30 for the first virtual event (5k Run or 5k Walk or 10k Run)
An additional $5 for the second virtual event (5k Run, 5k Walk and/or 10k Run combination) (Includes two medals)
*A group discount of $5 off per individual is available for both the in-person and virtual events.
Registration for both the in-person and virtual Kalamazoo Klassic 5k Run/Walk and/or 10k Run closes Thursday, June 17th at 11:59pm. Shirt size and availability cannot be guaranteed after Sunday, June 6th.
At least 85% of the net proceeds of the Kalamazoo Klassic benefit MRC Industries, Inc. in its mission to encourage and support individuals living with a disability to achieve their fullest potential through employment, skill-building and active community involvement. The remaining proceeds benefit Kalamazoo Area Runners (KAR) in its mission to promote a healthy lifestyle through the sport of running while enhancing the quality of life in the community.
