Event Description
We are excited to host our 6th Annual Miles for Mentorship event to support Big Brothers Big Sisters Michigan Capital Region’s mission to ignite the promise and power of youth! Miles for Mentorship is an outdoor, walk or run 5K. This year the event will be held at Hawk Island starting and ending at the Red Tail Shelter. Proceeds to this event help support the agency’s mission to create 1-to-1 mentoring relationships so that all youth achieve their full potential!
Back again! children 12 years of age and under are invited to participate in our Spooky Sprint Kids Run! Halloween costumes are encouraged, and each participant will receive a treat bag and finisher medal at the finish line. The Spooky Sprint is free of charge!
The race will be professionally chip timed by the Michigan Running Foundation. Results will be posted during the race and online at the results tab, top of the page.
5k Course
This 5k race is an out and back course that starts and ends at the Red Tail Shelter. The full race course can be found here.
Pricing
Registration opens January 13th!
Early registration begins at $25 from 1/13/26-4/22/26
1st price increase: $30 from 4/23/26-8/23/26
2nd price increase: $35 from 8/24/26-9/22/26
Final price increase: $40 from 9/23/26-10/4/26
Race Shirts
Race shirt designs will be announced by June 2026. Sizing is unisex.

Can I pick up my family or friend’s Packet at Packet Pick Up?
Yes! Our staff/volunteers will just need to know first and last name.
Are baby joggers and strollers allowed?
Yes! For everyone’s safety and to ensure a smooth start, we kindly ask that joggers with strollers and walkers line up toward the back of the starting area. This helps prevent congestion and allows runners to get off to a clean start.
Are Dogs Allowed?
No. For the safety of the participants and the dogs we ask you not bring your dog unless it is a service animal.
Can I wear headphones? Sure, there's nothing like some good tunes while you run. We just ask that you can still hear and are aware of your surroundings.
This is my first 5k run/walk, what should I expect? Congrats, we're excited to have you! We recommend arriving on race day race, about 1 hour prior to the start to park, get your shirt and bib #, and get warmed up. Wear the bib (your race number) on the outermost layer on your torso, we provide safety pins to pin it to your shirt. Pin in all four corners so the number doesn't flap when you're running/walking. Prior to the race the announcer will call everyone up to the start line. The speedy racers will line up at the front, everyone else lines up behind them. The race will start and off you go! There are plenty of other participants and course support to guide you along the way. Refreshments will be available after the finish. We'll text you your results, and we'll also have a QR code for you to scan to pull up your results. Lastly and most importantly HAVE FUN! You'll love the energy from the race!
Are there refunds? There are no refunds for this event. The 5k will happen rain or shine! As you can imagine, there is a lot of planning that goes into an event and t-shirts, awards, refreshments, etc. all have to be ordered ahead of time.
