Description
Support the Monroe County 4-H Slow Spokes program and HEARTT program! THIS IS A TIMED EVENT!!
Started in 1972, "Slow Spokes" is a 107 mile - 3 day bicycle trip from Monroe County, MI to Michigan State University. Youth from 11 to 19 years old pedal their way to MSU to meet up with over 2,500 kids from various counties in Michigan. On the way, the group stays overnight at a church and a middle school. At MSU, youth participate in 4-H Exploration Days where they attend classes and network with other youth around the state. Slow Spokes has been a great experience for the thousands of kids that have attended over the years. The trip has taught kids lifelong skills such as leadership, teambuilding, and overcoming adversity by finding out they can always go "just a little bit farther." The price of the trip has increased since it first began in 1972 and the proceeds of the race will go towards scholarships for those who participate in Slow Spokes in the future.
HEARTT (help earn award recognition with timeless treasures) was developed a few years ago to raise money for the Monroe County 4-H ribbons. The 4-H youth rely on these ribbons for all of their projects entered at the fair. However, these can be very expensive as ribbons need to be purchased each year in large quantities. HEARTT will ensure that each 4-H youth will continue to receive ribbons at the fair on the projects that they enter.
