Mercy Health Seaway Run Volunteer Opportunities
1. Packet Prep
A volunteer in this position helps in stuffing the runner packet with flyers and other donated items on the Thursday –a week prior to the race. Time needed is from 1pm until packets are completed, normally finished by 5pm.
2. Course Marshal
A volunteer in this position will stand at an assigned corner and direct traffic. Traffic to be held back when it would pose a danger to a runner. Needed the morning of the race. Be at assigned corner no later than 7:20am and stay until race end (approx. 11:00am for 15K &Half Marathon)
3. Race Timer
A volunteer in this position stands at the mile markers on the race course and yells out the unofficial race time to help runners in pacing themselves. Needed the morning of the race. These volunteers meet at Wassermann’s Flowers (1595 Lakeshore Dr.) no later than 7:10am and disperse to their assigned mile marker after the start of the race. Needed to stay until race end (approx. 11:00am for 15K & Half Marathon).
4. Packet Pick-up / Late Registration / Health Expo
Registration, packet pick up and the Health Expo will be held at 920 Watermark at the corner of Division and Washington. Volunteers are needed on Thursday, June 20 from 10:30am - 9pm, Friday, 9:00am until 8pm and Saturday, from 5:30am until the race is over. Volunteer needs include set-up, clean-up, registration, packet pick up, exhibitors, etc. Volunteer shifts will be available in 3 hour increments but we can be flexible to fit your schedule. The first and last shifts will be for set up and clean up.
5. Run/Walk “ASK ME” Team
“ASK ME” Volunteer Team members will be trained on all aspects of Event Day activities. Duties include directing drivers to designated parking areas, directing participants to packet pick-up, showing runners & walkers to correct start area, pointing out portable toilets, water, food, children’s activities and answer any questions of participants the morning of the event.
6. Start / Finish Line Area
A volunteer in this position will help as assigned in the start and/or finish line areas. Duties may include holding mile time indicator sign at start, keeping the runners moving through the chute area, handing out water/food, keeping runners moving thru the food area, keeping spectators out of the finish line area, keeping finish area free of safety hazards, and otherwise assisting runners as they complete the race.
7. Set-up / Tear Down
A volunteer in this position will be helping set up fencing, garbage cans, recycle cans, banners, etc. at the YMCA. There are a variety of days/times needed. Set-up volunteers are needed for Wednesday prior to the race (time to be determined) and also the morning of the race at 6am. Tear down volunteers are needed after the race is completed normally from approx 10:00am until noon on Saturday.
