The Lake Minnetonka Triathlon is a sprint triathlon. The Excelsior Commons, also known as The Commons, is the central hub of the race. Race day packet pick-up, body markings, the mandatory pre-race meeting, transition area, finish line, awards ceremony, food & water tables, and vendors will all be located here.
SWIM: The triathlon begins from the Excelsior Public Beach. This unique 1/2 mile swim goes along the shore of Lake Minnetonka's Excelsior Bay (not an out and back swim) so that spectators can view the entire swim from the hillside above.
BIKE: The 15 mile (out and back) ride has several rolling hills and goes out through Carver County, then back to The Excelsior Commons.
RUN: The run is roughly 3.1 miles (5k distance) along the shores of Lake Minnetonka on the Three Rivers Park light rail trail. The trail is very flat and made of hard pack clay.
Individual Triathlon: Within the individual triathlon category, you will have the option to race in your age group, as an Elite, or as a Clydesdale/Athena.
AquaBike: The AquaBike division is designed for athletes who only want to do the swim and bike portions of the race. After the bike, AquaBike participants will be asked to run ~100 meters to complete the race at the official finish line, along with the rest of the racers.
Relay Team: Relay Teams are comprised of 2 or 3 athletes that compete as a team. Each person does at least one leg of the race.
*Family Team: Family Teams are NOT the same as Relay Teams, but are teams made up of 2 individual athletes that race in their own division (age group, Elite, or Clydesdale/Athena). Both athlete's times will be combined for a total Family Team time. There is no extra cost to compete as a Family Team, but you must indicate that you'd like to participate as a Family Team during registration.
Registration fees are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another athlete or deferred under any circumstance. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
