Description
Welcome to the First Annual Climb the Mine Hike in Hibbing, Minnesota.
This one-of-a-kind community hike begins at the Greyhound Bus Museum & through Historic Old Hibbing, where the roots of our mining town first took hold more than a century ago. From there, participants will make their way through the heart of Hibbing and gradually climb to the breathtaking overlook at the Hull-Rust-Mahoning Mine View.
At the finish, you will stand at what is often called the world’s largest open-pit iron ore mine, known as the “Grand Canyon of the North.” The climb is steady and rewarding, ending with one of the most incredible views on the Iron Range.
This event is designed for all ages and abilities. Whether you are hiking with friends, family, or coworkers, the Climb the Mine Hike is about enjoying the journey, celebrating Hibbing’s history, and taking in the view together.
The Climb the Mine Hike is a fundraiser for the Hibbing Tourist & Senior Citizen Center, supporting local programming, events, and services that help keep our community vibrant and welcoming for residents and visitors alike.
Participants should be ready for a true Iron Range experience. Portions of the route travel over natural mining terrain, which means there is a good chance your shoes will pick up the signature red tint of iron ore along the way. Consider it a badge of honor and a colorful reminder that you climbed the mine.
Be part of the very first year of what we hope becomes a beloved Hibbing tradition.
Come for the climb. Stay for the view. Support the community.
