Description

The Donut 5K is a virtual event that combines the grueling sports of competitive eating and long distance running. Participants will be given a 10 minute period where they can consume as many donuts as they like (all flavors of full sized donuts are welcome. Donut holes are strictly prohibited). The eating period will be followed immediately by a 5k run. Each donut eaten prior to the running portion will count towards a time deduction based on a tier system as follows: the first 2 donuts eaten will subtract 30 seconds per donut, donuts 3 and 4 will subtract 45 seconds per donut, donuts number 5 and up will count as a minute deduction per donut. For example if a racer ate 4 donuts (an impressive feat) they will receive a time deduction of 2:30. Results will be displayed as the fastest overall times after donut accounted time deductions with awards being given to top 3 overall, fastest 5k, and most donuts eaten. This is a VIRTUAL event, so participants will have to submit running times, a gps file or strava link, and the number of donuts eaten via an online form to qualify for results. While this may be a virtual event, we encourage you to safely gather some friends, chow down on some donuts, and get moving!

Rules:

Only full sized donuts are accepted

Racers may not count any donuts eaten outside of the 10 minute eating period

If participants choose not to run or do not complete the 5K, they will be given a default time of 1 hour

This is a fun event. Please don't lie about the number of donuts you ate. The prizes are not that great.

Racers will provide their own donuts.

Donuts #1&2=30 second deduction per donut.   Donuts #3&4=45 second deduction per donut.   Donuts #5+=1 minute deduction per donut

Awards:

The runners with fastest overall times for the male and female categories will receive a giftcard to Dunkin Donuts for $10.72 (the exact cost of a dozen donuts plus tax)

All other award winners will receive a Dunkin Donuts gift card for $5 which may be used to buy a single donut, or to gain a significant discount towards any other purchase on their rather expansive menu

Results Submission:

All registered racers will be contacted via email with an online form to submit results. The number of donuts eaten will be recorded based on the honor system. GPS files or strava links will be accepted to verify running times

FAQs

1. Do I have to supply my own donuts? What kind is best?

Yes, runners will have to supply their own donuts (all the more reason to recruit some friends to join you and split the cost). Luckily, after years of experience, the race director has determined that cheaper donuts go down easier. He would recommend a box of glazers from the Kwik Trip.

2. Can I only race once?

If you have the gusto to attempt this event multiple times then you are more than welcome to and submit your best time.

3. Is there a recommended race course?

Since this is a virtual race, it can be run anywhere. Parks, bike paths, the treadmill at your gym, and around your block are all great locations!

4. Is this a MLE (Major League Eating) sanctioned event?

While this race is the premier donut eating/distance running event in the area, it is not sanctioned by the MLE, but professional competitive eaters are still encouraged to join.
