Description
Race Against Racism is a community event at the Minneapolis Sports Center at YWCA Midtown. Bring your friends and families together for a casual (or competitive) walk/run against racism. We make every effort to accommodate adaptive participants in this event. Kids age 11 and under can participate for free, and there will also be Toddler Trots at 9:30am and 12:00pm. *Please note, strollers are allowed in the building and near the other tables/activities. The only space that strollers are not permitted is on the racetrack itself for the safety of all participants*

Mission Behind Race Against Racism
Much like training for an athletic event, eliminating racism requires commitment, a plan, consistent hard work, and a willingness to push past potentially limiting beliefs. Consider how our different identities, experiences and bodies inhabit different lanes in both the work of eliminating racism, and the work of running. Sharing a track together on Saturday 3/23 allows us to visualize these lanes, and our shared work.
The CDC states that racism, both structural and interpersonal, has a direct, negative effect on the mental and physical health of millions of people in America. Race against Racism is an opportunity for us to come together in the spirit of health and solidarity to raise awareness of this crisis, and take action together while supporting YWCA’s Racial Justice programs.
Day of Race Activities
YWCA Race Against Racism will have many fun activities race day such as:
- Racial Justice Activities for Adults
- Face Painting
- Music
- Bounce House
- Food Trucks
Awards and Giveaways
Everyone who completes the events will receive a special sticker set! There will also be great apparel for purchase to support the YWCA at this event.
Race Times
Race Times will be assigned after registration closes on March 20, 2024. Please try to come as close to the start of your session as possible and enjoy the Racial Justice activities, games for kids, and other offerings while you wait for your race time.
