Our Purpose: The Urban Wildland Half Marathon & 5K began in 2003 to save Wood Lake Nature Center's environmental education partnership with the Richfield Public Schools, which was in jeopardy due to cuts in local government aid. Since Wood Lake Nature Center's opening in 1971, Richfield's K-6 students had visited Wood Lake multiple times a year as part of their science curriculum. Thanks to the Urban Wildland, the program was spared and has continued every year with the proceeds from this event.
Registration for the 19th Urban Wildland Half Marathon & 5K will open at 250 in-person participants for each race on January 15th at 12:00 AM.
If the uncertainty around COVID-19 were to subside early enough in 2021, registration could possibly be reopened to offer more participants the chance to run in-person.
A virtual option is available for both the Half Marathon and 5K race as well as a 10K and 10 mile race.
If COVID-19 conditions do not improve and the in-person races are cancelled, registrations for those who registered for the in-person races will automatically be converted to the virtual races and details for reporting finishing times will be emailed to participants.
In the case of in-person cancellation, Urban Wildland has formulated the following Discount Plan for those who register for the in-person 2021 races.
More in-depth COVID-19 Safety Preparedness Plans for the 2021 Urban Wildland Races will be posted here in the future.
