2016 Community-wide Back to School Supply Drive

Why:

Sadly, there are 90,000 school-aged children, in our community, who live in poverty and attend school in high poverty neighborhoods.  Many of these children face the reality of not having enough food to eat, no air conditioning in the summer, and no heat in the winter.  Far too often they attend school without the supplies they must have to learn and succeed.  Items as simple as pencils, paper, markers, crayons and glue, are desperately needed supplies that too many children lack.  Studies show that children who are equipped with the proper tools for school have a much better chance of succeeding in school and in life.  KidSmart believes every child, regardless of race, gender or socio-economic status, deserves to go to school equipped to learn.

Who:

There are 90,000 local kids who live in poverty and depend on the KidSmart Free Educational Supply Store for their school supplies and educational resources throughout each school year.  The collected supplies are distributed directly into the hands of eager students, through KidSmart’s Free Educational Supply Store.  Push for Pencils collects 500,000 new school supplies and raises $100,000 in financial support for local kids.

What:

Push for Pencils is Missouri’s largest, community-wide supply drive benefitting 90,000 St. Louis Metropolitan area kids in need. Each August, participating companies and individuals collect desperately needed school supplies and financial donations to benefit tens of thousands of local children who live in poverty and attend schools in impoverished neighborhoods.
