Celebrate April Fool's Day by having fun for a serious cause!
For more than 30 years, the Good Samaritan Center has been dedicated to preventing homelessness and hunger by providing basic life needs and access to life skills for residents in northern Clay County (including Excelsior Springs, Lawson and Kearney) and throughout Ray County. Our annual 5K fundraiser will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017, on S. Kansas City Avenue in front of Wabash BBQ. The scenic out-and-back course includes a loop through Lake Maurer.
A special student rate of only $10 is available (just enter the coupon code STUDENT). After the 5K run and walk, there will be a 1-mile fun run for the kids.
Have more fun with a team of your best friends or co-workers! Create a team of five, and each participant will receive a $6 discount (only $24 -- like signing up 4 and getting the 5th member free). Team leaders have the option to create a team and register all of the members together, or to allow team members to register individually after the team has been created.
Register by March 17 to receive an event t-shirt!
First place overall winners in the men's and women's divisions will receive a pair of running shoes from The Running Well Store. Gift bags from Endurance House and medals will be awarded to the top male/female finishers in each age group.
More information is coming! We'll update this page as we confirm sponsors and prizes.

The Excelsior Springs School District Wellness Committee is a group of trained, caring providers with the common goal of promoting health and wellness to all our students, staff and their families. We appreciate the support and volunteer work contributed by the students and district employees to help make the Tortoise & Hare 5K a success.
The Fishing River Running Club is a group for everyone, non-runners and novice runners and avid athletes, in the Excelsior Springs and Kearney areas. We meet at the local Anytime Fitness (you DON'T have to be a member!) to run together every Wednesday at 6 p.m. Our mission is to build a network within the Excelsior Springs/Kearney community where runners can train with others and provide a forum to discuss running techniques, goals and accomplishments. Have fun, get fit, and make new friends!
