Nelson Hopkins, Jr. was a young man that lived in the Kansas City, MO community. As a student at Alta Vista Charter High School, he was extremely intelligent, with hopes for a bright future. In the fall of 2010, he would have been a freshman in college. However, on December 1, 2009, this dream was tragically ended as Nelson fell victim to a senseless drive by shooting, resulting in his death. Shortly after the death of Nelson, a scholarship fund was started in his name. This scholarship fund is used to send deserving students from Alta Vista to college, and all proceeds from the Hopkins 5k go toward the fund. Although Nelson was not able to attend college, it is the hope of all that through the Nelson Hopkins, Jr. Scholarship Fund, his dream and passion for life will live on through others.
Entry Fee: $15, includes bib and t-shirt (Day-of race registration will be $20)
