Description
The International Dyslexia Association – Kansas-Missouri Branch is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed to increase public awareness of dyslexia.
The organization is a resource and support system for parents, educators, and individuals with dyslexia.
The IDA-KSMO branch provides an information and referral hotline, community outreach activities, yearly conference, teacher training workshops, and e-newsletters.
As a small group of educators and parents of sons and daughters with dyslexia, we are acutely aware of the challenges children with reading difficulties face in school. Many children struggle in silence never reaching their true potential, while teachers and parents simply lack access to useful research and training.
This year we decided as the new board of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) - Kansas-Missouri Branch to create an annual 5K Run/Walk. Our goal is to increase dyslexia awareness and raise funds to help with necessary teacher training and evidence based intervention that benefits students. We are also dedicated to early identification and intervention on behalf of children struggling to learn to read. The funds raised from the Dash go directly to our KSMO IDA branch and are set aside to provide teacher training, seminars, support groups, and referral and advocacy services. The more funds raised the more teachers in Kansas & Missouri will receive level one training towards becoming a certified reading instructor. Let's help our teachers get the training they need to help all children learn!
Thank you for your involvement n the 2016 Dyslexia Dash - IDA 5K. Without the support of our participants, sponsors, and volunteers, these exciting events would not be possible. Together we can demystify reading difficulties, spread knowledge, and encourage change.
Sincerely,
Cathy Denesia, KSMO IDA President & the entire KSMO IDA Board
